Â
Series History
This will be the first time Clarion has travelled to Cornell since the early 90s when they wrestled the Big Red twice, with the Golden Eagles sweeping both dual meets. In the 1993-94 season, Clarion defeated the Big Red 21-13. Â
Â
This will be the first time the Big Red Invitational has taken place and will see many of the top teams in the nation compete.
Â
Preview
Taking a break from dual meets, the Golden Eagles will see 20 wrestlers traveling to Ithaca, New York for the Big Red Invite. This is a great opportunity for the team to earn some big time wins against top competition.
Â
Clarion will be sending at least two wrestlers at every weight class with the exception of 125, where
Bobby Gardner will be competing, and at 157 pounds, where no Golden Eagle is slated to wrestle. The tournament will be split into two pools, with a Clarion wrestler participating in each pool.
Â
John Worthing has gotten off to a fast start in his senior season earning victories in both dual meets and finishing second at the Clarion Open. In the latest rankings from InterMat (11/19), Worthing was ranked 33rd in the nation in the weight class. Â
Â
Austin Chapman has been a crucial cog for the Golden Eagles, winning both of his dual meets on the season. The heavyweight has been the aggressor in both of the dual meets this season as he has had the only takedowns in his matches.
Â
Patrick Cutchember looked strong filling in at 197 pounds, despite weighing under 10 pounds under the weight limit. He defeated George Mason's Donovan Spouse by an 11-7 decision where he controlled the majority of the match. At the Big Red Invitational, Cutchember will be wrestling at 184 pounds.
Â
Clarion will get a boost to their lineup when 133 pounder
Scott Johnson and 197 pounder
Ethan Wiant return for the Golden Eagles. It will be their first action on the mat since the Clarion Open.
