Wesley Barnes won the 165-pound "B" section and a handful of other Golden Eagle wrestlers took second place in their respective brackets, as the Golden Eagles competed at the Big Red Invitational hosted by Cornell on Sunday.

Barnes went 5-0 in his matches at 165 pounds, highlighting the day at Cornell's storied Barton Hall. He bookended his day with two wins by fall, starting with a second period win over Sacred Heart's David Rozenblum and closing with a fall over the Pioneers' Anthony Mann in the first period. Barnes also won a pair of close matches on Sunday, beating Cornell's Kaleb Williams by 4-1 decision in sudden victory, and later beating Sacred Heart's Calvin Pineda by 3-2 decision.

Though Barnes was the only Golden Eagle to win his weight class, there were others that earned runner-up status on Sunday:

- Kyle Schickel took second place in the 149 "A" bracket with a 2-1 record, with his only loss coming to nationally-ranked Ethan Fernandez of Cornell. He beat Buffalo's Sam Ewing by major decision, coming up just shy of a technical fall with a 20-9 score, and later outlasted Brown's Samuel McMonagle for a 5-2 decision.

- In the 133-pound "B" bracket, Scott Johnson returned to action for the Golden Eagles to place second in the field with a 4-1 record. Johnson stacked up bonus points in his pool, starting with a 13-4 major decision over Buffalo's Dillon Arrick. He followed with a 17-1 technical fall over the Bulls' Â Troy Guerra and then claimed a 9-6 decision against Cornell's Ethan Qureshi. That led to bracket competition, where Johnson beat Sacred Heart's Anthony Samuels by fall in the second period. Qureshi got the better of him in the championship match, earning a fall in the second period.

- In the 149 "B" bracket, both Judah Aybar and Chandler Ho showed well, taking second and third place respectively. Aybar went 3-1 overall, starting with a 14-3 major decision over Sacred Heart's Daniel Delusant and a first period fall against Buffalo's Cael Raines. He also recorded a third period fall against Cornell's Macario Calavitta. His only loss of the day came to Binghamton's Caleb Sweet, who beat him by 4-2 decision. Ho, meanwhile, beat Raines in sudden victory 9-6 and took a major against Calavitta. Sweet also got the better of him, winning by fall at 4:45.

- Gavin Wilmoth placed second in the 174-pound "B" bracket, going 2-1 on the day. He beat a pair of wrestlers from Sacred Heart, defeating Nicolas Eboli by 11-2 major decision and Calum Price by 18-3 technical fall.

- Ethan Wiant took second place in the 197 "B" bracket, winning three matches in his return to action. He defeated teammate Connor Jacobs by 7-2 decision early on in the day, and then claimed a 4-2 decision over Sacred Heart's Kevin Taylor and a 17-4 major decision against Brown's Alex Hamrick.

- Lucas Thomas placed second in the 285 "B" bracket, going 4-1 with three falls. He started off with a first period fall over Buffalo's Will Hotaling, and also pinned Brown's Braden Ewing and Buffalo's Jack MacDonald. In between, Thomas took an 11-6 decision over Buffalo's Robert Unruh.
