Â
CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles wrestling team returned home for a midweek dual, falling 31-3 to Drexel at Tippin Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Â
Kyle Schickel had the result of the night for the Golden Eagles, gaining a measure of revenge against the Dragons' Dominic Findora in the 149-pound bout. In last year's meeting between the teams Findora was dominant, beating Schickel by a 15-0 technical fall. Schickel was determined to not let history repeat itself on Wednesday, beating Findora by a 7-4 decision. A takedown in the first period gave Findora an early lead, and he led by a 4-2 score midway through the third period.
Â
The move of the bout came when Schickel dodged a Findora shot at his legs, with Schickel trapping his opponent for a three-point takedown and a pair of near fall points. That was all that Schickel needed to hold on for the win, as he held on to Findora for all but a few seconds at the end of the match for the decision.
Â
That result was the highlight of the night for the Golden Eagles, as the Dragons won nine of the 10 bouts on the mat.
Travis Clawson nearly put Clarion ahead early in the match, falling in a tight 10-9 decision to Des Pleasant at 125 pounds, and
Wesley Barnes came up just a point short in a 4-3 decision to Jack Janda.
John Altieri also wrestled a competitive bout, losing by 4-2 decision to Luke Nichter at 157 pounds.
