YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --- Two Golden Eagles – one on the track and the other in the field – hit conference qualifying marks on Friday night, as Clarion opened the 2025 indoor season at the YSU Icebreaker.
Abby Stitzer hit the first PSAC-qualifying mark of the season in the track events on Friday night, taking second place overall in the competitive field in the 800m. The freshman distance runner crossed the finish line with a time of 2:22.77, putting her less than a second behind first place finisher Mackenzie Sullivan of Pittsburgh. Stitzer also cleared the conference qualifying time of 2:25.15, the first step in putting her in the field at the conference championships in Lehigh later this season.
There was a qualifying mark in the field as well, with
Madison Foringer hitting a PSAC mark in the Weight Throw. She took seventh in the Elite heat of the event with a throw of 14.39m, hitting that mark on her final attempt of the day. That pushed her past the qualifying standard of 14.20m.
Those were the lone conference qualifying marks on Friday, though there were a handful of other top-10 finishes for the Golden Eagles. The 3000m run proved fertile ground for strong finishes, with three Clarion runners placing in the top nine and four in the top-11.
Abigail Butera was the first of those finishers, crossing the line in a fifth-place time of 11:13.39. Jessica Shelderfer was just one place behind her, taking sixth with a time of 11:41.43.
Paige Brewer snuck into the top-10 with a time of 11:46.59 and
Chesnee Williams rounded out the quartet with an 11
th-place finish, finishing in 12:17.73.
Rounding out the night on the track for Clarion on Friday was the 4x400m Relay team of
Leah Perry, Stitzer,
Hannah Redwood and
Caleigh Aigler. The foursome took 11
th place with a time of 4:24.84.
Hannah Redwood set a new PR in the 60m, crossing the line in a time of 8.27.
Hope Bundash had a solid night in the Mile, taking 16
th with a time of 5:45.19.
Maddison Ho had the other top finish in the field for Clarion, taking 13
th in the Shot Put with a mark of 9.89m.
Emily Pleslusky took 14
th in the Pole Vault, clearing the bar at a height of 3.10m – just 0.01m shy of her indoor PR in the event.
