Gonczi, Calhoun Sweep CSCAA Women's Diving Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- Junior Alexa Gonczi became the program's 18th Division II Women's Diver of the Year and diving coach Heath Calhoun earned his second straight Division II Women's Diving Coach of the Year honor, as the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced their postseason awards on Tuesday.

Gonczi won the Women's Diver of the Year award after capping her junior season with a standout performance at the Division II Championships last week, winning the national championship in the 3-Meter Dive and taking third place in the 1-Meter Dive. She has now earned four total All-American honors over her career, but her pair of top-eight finishes in 2024 are the first of her career.

The win is the 18th in program history for the Golden Eagle women's team. Teammate Luna Castellanos won the award last year, and Clarion women's divers have won 14 Diver of the Year awards since 2000.

Calhoun was named the CSCAA Division II Women's Diving Coach of the Year after an incredible showing for the Golden Eagle women in 2024. Clarion women divers made seven of a possible eight total finals appearances over the course of the week, including a quartet of Golden Eagles in the 3-Meter Dive on Thursday. That was the first time four women from the school reached a final since Clarion did it in 2007 with Jena Gardone, Teagan Riggs, Ginny Saras and Jamie Wolf in the Women's 1-Meter dive.

Under Calhoun's tutelage, Gonczi won her first career national championship when she paced the field in the Women's 3-Meter Dive, while Castellanos, Katie Madigan and Colleen Hudson all finished in the top-eight. Gonczi, Castellanos and Madigan all placed in the top-eight in the 1-Meter Dive, while Hudson finished 13th.

Calhoun has now coached three national champions in his three-year tenure as the program's diving coach, as well as 26 total All-Americans combined between men and women. His honor represents the 18th Women's Diving Coach of the Year honor for the Clarion program, an honor dating back to 1988.
