Men's Golf Ties for 7th at Vulcan Fire Classic

WASHINGTON, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle men's golf team made a significant improvement in their second round at the Vulcan Fire Classic on Tuesday, cutting off 17 strokes from their first round and finishing tied for seventh in the field at Lone Pine Country Club. Clarion made up a five-stroke deficit to Mercyhurst to catch the Lakers, finishing with a two-day score of 641 (329+312).

The biggest improvements from the first to the second came from Will Meyer and Brennan Karalfa, who cut six and seven strokes respectively from their scores on Monday. Meyer shot a 77 on Tuesday, notching just one birdie – a 2 on par-3 No. 14 – but mostly avoiding big numbers. Karalfa, meanwhile, matched Meyer's score with a 77 of his own, carding just five bogeys but maintaining par the rest of the way.

Ryan Robinson finished as the Golden Eagles' top man on the leaderboard, shooting a 76 on Tuesday – a three-stroke improvement on Monday's round – to finish tied for 20th. He posted a two-day score of 155. Meyer was second on the team, tying for 37th with a 160, while Karalfa was one stroke behind him. Chase Smith matched his outing from a day before with an 83, posting a two-day score of 166, while Hayden Siegel made a five-stroke improvement with an 82 on Tuesday, giving him a 169. Keith Hamilton played as an individual and shot an 87 on Tuesday.
