LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship tees off on Friday, April 26 at Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown, Pa. Action kicks off at 11 a.m. This year's championship will consist of 54 holes and will conclude on Sunday, April 28.
Â
The Golden Eagle women's golf team will begin their journey at the conference championship at approximately 12:20 p.m. when
Hannah Smith tees off with Bloomsburg's Ryleigh Faust and Shepherd's Sara Veara. She will be followed by
Sylvia Stibley,
McKayla Kerle,
Hailee Liptak and
McLain Alt.
Samantha Huth is expected to join the rest of her team at the championships for the final two rounds, on Saturday and Sunday.
Â
This year's championship will be the last for Golden Eagle head women's golf coach
Gregg Fritz, who is retiring at the end of the season. In his seven seasons at the helm of the program Clarion has made significant strides. Stibley has twice been named the PSAC Champion Scholar, an award given annually to the student-athlete with the best GPA competing at that year's conference championship.
Â
The Golden Eagles have also produced some of the best results in program history on the course under Fritz.
Hannah Smith shot a 76 in the final round of the Clarion Fall Invitational, the second-lowest score in program history, and their round and two-round scores at the Charleston Invite earlier in the fall were also among the best in school history.
Â
Twelve teams will compete for the conference title during the three-day tournament. Gannon University is the four-time defending champion, while Berkleigh Golf Club is hosting the PSAC Championship for the third consecutive year.
Â
Gannon's Ditte Petersen returns to defend her individual title from last spring. Another Golden Knight, Sarah White, is another former medalist and was the PSAC individual champion in 2022. The Gannon lineup also includes Andrea Martinez, who was runner-up to Petersen in 2023.
