SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle track & field team will kick off three days in Shippensburg on Friday afternoon, when action at the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships begins at Seth Grove Stadium. Clarion will have nine total athletes competing in 10 events.
Â
The Championships commence on Friday morning, with Clarion represented in all three events contested on the first day.
Leah Perry will begin her two-day quest in the Heptathlon with four of the seven events – the 100H, the High Jump, the Shot Put and the 200m. The multi will conclude on Saturday with the Long Jump, Javelin and 800m, but Perry will still have a busy weekend. She competes in the open 100H prelims on Saturday and will wrap with the open High Jump on Sunday.
Â
Also competing on Friday will be one thrower and one distance runner.
Madison Foringer broke the program record in the Hammer Throw last week with a toss of 43.18m and will look to better that mark at the conference meet, while
Allison Farson will compete in the 10,000m late on Friday evening.
Â
Including Perry, Clarion will compete in five events on Saturday. Representing the team in the field will be
Shelly Jones, who kicks off the final PSAC Championships of her career in the Discus. The senior thrower will wrap things on Sunday when she competes in the Shot Put, an even where currently owns the fourth-best mark in the PSAC. Conversely,
Paige Brewer will make her PSAC Championships debut in the 3000m Steeplechase, with the freshman looking to make her mark in the grueling distance event.
Â
Saturday will also see
Mackenzie Carver begin her quest to sweep the 800m titles in 2024. The senior runner captured the conference championship in the indoor 800m at the PSAC Championships in Febraury, making her the first Golden Eagle to win a conference championship since Kim Hanslovan won the Javelin in 2011. Carver will now look to add the outdoor championship to her mantle, starting with Saturday's preliminary race, alongside Golden Eagle freshman
Nicole Carroll. The final in the event is set for Sunday.
Â
Perry and
Sadie Leisinger will compete in the open High Jump on Sunday, after the latter qualified at the John Papa Invitational on April 18. The senior battled injuries during the 2023 outdoor season but returned to form late in the year in 2024 and will look to wrap her collegiate career on a high note. Also competing in the field on Sunday is
Autumn Pettinato, who will look for a big performance in the Javelin. Last year Pettinato reached the finals of the Javelin and placed ninth.
