CLARION, Pa. --- The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their 2024 Academic All-District Women's Track & Field / Cross Country teams on Tuesday. Five members of the Golden Eagle track & field and cross country teams –
Mackenzie Carver,
Shelly Jones,
Sadie Leisinger,
Leah Perry and
Autumn Pettinato – earned a spot for their academic and athletic accomplishments this year.
In addition to the All-District honors, Carver was named a finalist for Academic All-America honors. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members, with the honorees announced on July 9.
For a student-athlete to be eligible for Academic All-District honors in track & field and cross country, they must be at least a sophomore both academically and in terms of athletic eligibility and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.50 or better. In addition, they must have placed in the top-50 in their region in at least one event.
Carver (3.98 – Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) finished her Clarion career as just the third athlete in school history to win multiple PSAC track championships, joining Taryn Carter and Erin Richards. In the cross country season she placed ninth at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals, the best finish for a Golden Eagle since Richards in 2007.
Jones (3.93 – Athletic Training) concluded her career in the Blue & Gold by qualifying for and scoring in both the Shot Put and the Discus at the 2024 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She earned First Team All-PSAC honors at the 2024 Indoor Championships, taking second in the Shot Put.
Leisinger (3.58 – Biology) returned to action after an injury-plagued 2023 season, qualifying for the PSAC Championships in the High Jump during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She PR'ed in the event at the John Papa Invitational on April 18, clearing the bar at a height of 1.60m.
Perry (3.83 – Nutrition & Fitness) cracked the top-five on the program's all-time performance list in the Pentathlon, posting a score of 2985 at the YSU Indoor Mid-Major in February. She just missed out on scoring at the conference outdoor meet in the Heptathlon, taking 11
th in the field with a score of 3717.
Pettinato (3.64 – Nursing) had her best season throwing the Javelin in her college career, hitting a new PR in the event and scoring at the 2024 PSAC Outdoor Championships. She threw the implement a distance of 39.05m, good enough for eighth in the field at Seth Grove Stadium in May.
