CLARION, Pa. --- The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their 2024 Academic All-District Baseball teams on Tuesday. Four members of the Golden Eagles baseball program –
Caden Contant,
Bobby Curry,
Danny Fox and
Kasey Shughart – earned a spot on this year's list for their academic and athletic accomplishments.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or older academically and in terms of their eligibility, must maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA or better, and must have played in either 90 percent of their team's competitions or started 66 percent of their team's competitions. In the case of pitchers, they must have either made at least 17 appearances or pitched 25.0 innings.
Contant (3.85 – Nutrition & Fitness) excelled at reaching base in 2024, leading the team with a .415 on-base percentage that included a single-season program record 39 walks drawn, breaking his own record of 31 set a year ago. He posted a .773 OPS that included a team-best 11 doubles, and he tied for the team lead with 22 RBIs.
Curry (3.57 – Communications) broke the program's single-season appearance mark in his only season as a Golden Eagle, making 23 appearances on the mound. The senior southpaw was fourth overall on the team and first among relievers with 28.0 innings pitched, going 3-1 on the year.
Fox (3.89 – Master of Business Administration) was an effective pitcher for the Golden Eagles in 2024, striking out 32 batters in 28.0 innings and holding opponents to a .147 batting average over the course of 12 appearances and six starts. He was second on the team with a 1.25 WHIP and struck out eight batters in the Golden Eagles' 7-6 walkoff win against Gannon on April 26.
Shughart (3.56 – Interdisciplinary Studies) concluded his Clarion career in 2024 ranking among the most prolific Golden Eagles in program history in games played and games started and is also in the top-10 all-time in career hits. He led the team with a .329 batting average this season and reached base at a .390 clip. Shughart was also 8-of-10 on stolen base attempts.
