Tennis Defeats Lock Haven for First Win of Season

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles tennis team picked up their first win of the season and their first in the tenure of head coach David Lion on Sunday, with Clarion beating Lock Haven 5-2 on the road. The team took the doubles point and then proceeded to win four of the six singles matches for the victory.
 
The most exciting match of the doubles session was the No. 1 doubles bout, with Davan Lion and Josie Beckerleg winning in a tiebreaker to help clinch the point. They went back and forth with Megan Ferris and Mary Hillman, eventually winning a tiebreaker by a 7-2 score to lock up the win. Polia Vladeva and Stephanie Juarez cruised to a 6-0 win in the No. 2 doubles match as the Golden Eagles went ahead 1-0 in the match.
 
In the singles session, each of the top three matches went the way of the Golden Eagles as well. Lion was once again the winner in the No. 1 singles match, beating Ferris 6-1, 6-2 for her second straight singles win. Beckerleg picked up her first singles win of the year, beating Hillman 6-3, 6-0 for her second total win of the day. Stephanie Juarez was the third Golden Eagle to win two matches on the afternoon, downing Christy Leach 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match.
 
Perhaps the most competitive match in the singles session was also a Clarion win. Taelyn Thomas took the first set from Maci Rohrbach at No. 5 singles, winning by a 6-3 score, before Rohrbach reciprocated. That led to a third set tiebreaker, with Thomas edging Rohrbach by a 10-8 score.
