BELLE VERNON, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles men's golf team kicked off a three-round tournament with 36 holes of action on Monday afternoon, placing seventh in the field after two rounds at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California (PA). Clarion shot identical scores of 323 in each of the first two rounds at Cedarbrook Golf Club.

Action will conclude on Tuesday with 18 more holes.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was freshman
Devon Lauer, who tied for 24
th in the field in his first collegiate action. Lauer shot a 77 in the opening round that included birdies on the par-five fifth hole and the par-three seventh hole, and he carded an 80 in the late round. He made birdie on the par-five sixth hole and the par-four 13
th hole in the latter.

Teagan Gray was second on the team and tied for 27
th in the field with rounds of 81 and 77, improving by four strokes from his first round to the second. In the latter round he made his improvement on the back nine, shooting four strokes better and making back-to-back birdies on the 11
th and 12
th holes.

Chase Smith sat in a tie for 35
th in the field after rounds of 77 and 84, and
Hayden Siegel closed out the scoring with rounds of 88 and 82. The Golden Eagles also had a handful of individuals competing separately from the team, one of whom – Bradley Kugler – finished with round scores of 80 and 78 to check in just one stroke behind Lauer.
