Track & Field Returns to Action at SPIRE Midwest Open

GENEVA, Ohio --- Competing a huge field consisting of high-level opposition, the Golden Eagles track & field team returned to action on Saturday the SPIRE Midwest Collegiate Open.

Abigail Butera just narrowly missed out on hitting a PSAC-qualifying cut in the 5000m, but the freshman distance runner still had a strong day with a third-place finish in the event. Butera crossed the finish line in 18:51.31, behind only St. Vincent's Kristen Prince and Edinboro's Alexa Trax.

Elsewhere in the distance events, Abby Stitzer hit her PSAC qualifying time in the 800m for the second straight meet, this time coming in right under the wire. Stitzer placed 11th in the field with a time of 2:23.15.

In the throwing events, Madison Foringer returned to action with a seventh-place finish in the Weight Throw. She tossed the implement 14.05m, the third-best throw of the day for any non-Division I competition. That was the best finish for any Golden Eagle in a field event on Saturday. Emily Pleslusky also had a top-10 finish in the field, taking 10th in the Pole Vault by clearing the bar at a height of 3.00m.

In the sprints, Hannah Redwood was the top finisher in 60m prelims, crossing the line in a time of 8.48 but not making the finals later in the day. Leah Perry fared well in the 60H, taking 21st overall with a time of 9.72 that was close to a new PR.
