BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Golden Eagles cross country team traveled to Lehigh on Friday for their third event of the season, winning the Green race at the Paul Short Run. Clarion took the top spot in a field of 34 teams in their race, with two individuals cracking the top-10 and three harriers inside the top 30.
This marks the second straight year that the Golden Eagles have won a meet during the regular season. Last year Clarion won the Penn State Behrend Twilight Meet early in the season. Before that, one needs to go back to 2021 to find the last time the Golden Eagles' harriers won a meet; that was the Fisher Invitational at Westminster.
Sophomore Abigail Butera was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles, placing 5th overall in the field of 305 runners. She crossed the finish line with a time of 22:34.7, her best time in a 6K cross country race to this point in her career. Joining her inside the top-10 was freshman Rachel Braun, who finished ninth overall with a time of 22:53.2. Emmy Davis followed as the team's third finisher, running to a time of 23:59.2 that also represented a PR in a 6K cross country race.
Jessica Shelderfer finished fourth on the team and 32nd overall, crossing the line with a time of 24:05.7. Rounding out the top five for the Golden Eagles was Chesnee Williams, with the sophomore finishing in a time of 24:52.8. Freshmen Zoey Thomas and Cheyenne Zeedyk finished off the rest of the scoring for the Golden Eagles, recording times of 26:04.3 and 26:40.0 respectively.
