WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Clarion's historic season came to a close on Tuesday evening, as the Golden Eagles battled to the end in a 5–1 loss to No. 15 and top-seeded West Chester in the PSAC Quarterfinals at Rockwell Field.
Clarion's defense was challenged early, with the Golden Rams applying immediate pressure in the opening minutes. Goalkeeper
Sage Sherk held firm, keeping West Chester off the board through the early stages of the first half. The breakthrough came in the 11th minute when Faith Matter scored to give the Golden Rams a 1–0 lead. Clarion sought a quick response but was unable to mount a consistent attack.
West Chester continued to push forward, extending its lead to 2–0 on a goal by Kianna Barber.
Ciara DiMauro tried to create momentum for Clarion, firing a shot through the Rams' tight defensive coverage. The Golden Rams added one more before halftime, as Jenna Fox converted to give West Chester a 3–0 advantage at the break.
Clarion opened the second half with renewed energy, highlighted by an early shot from
Madison Rose. However, the Golden Rams countered with a goal from Kate Alexander to make it 4–0. The Golden Eagles continued to push back, earning attempts from
Addison Blair,
Marisa Colondrillo, and DiMauro, as both teams traded possessions and shots. Alexander later added her second goal of the match, stretching the lead to 5–0.
A tactical rotation brought fresh pressure from Clarion, and the shift paid off. Colondrillo sparked the attack, and
Evelyn Cook drew a foul inside the box. Colondrillo calmly stepped up and converted the penalty to put Clarion on the board, cutting the deficit to 5–1. Neither team found another breakthrough, and the match concluded by that score.
Sherk finished the night with eight saves on 13 shots on goal. DiMauro led the Golden Eagles offensively with seven shots, including three on target. Brewer, Blair, and Rose each added a shot to support the attack.
