CLARION, Pa.
--- Sixteen Golden Eagle wrestlers travel to Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pa. this weekend to compete in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic on Sunday, November 9. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. This is the first time a Keith Ferraro-led Golden Eagles squad will compete at the Journeymen.

One of the more prominent early season tournaments, the Journeymen is known for its unique format – a round-robin individual competition with wrestlers at most weights divided into two pools. The wrestlers with the best record in each pool meet to determine a weight-class winner.

At weight classes with only one pool, the wrestler with the best record following the round-robin match ups is the winner. The format ensures each grappler gets at least three matches.

Two Clarion wrestlers looking to build off opening weekend success at the Clarion Open are Joey Fischer, fourth at 133 pounds, and Adrian Gacek, fifth at 184 pounds. Fischer (3-2) won three straight matches, reaching the semifinals before suffering a pair of setbacks. Gacek (5-1) opened with two consecutive victories before taking his only loss of the event in the quarterfinals. On the consolation side of the bracket, he reeled off three wins to close out the day.

Other returners posting winning records were 125-pounder Travis Clawson, 157-pounder Wesley Barnes, 165-pounder Alejandro Herrera Rondon, and 174-pounder John Altieri, all 3-2.

Two freshmen, each of whom was 3-2 in their Golden Eagle debuts at the Clarion Open, will be making the trip east – Cody Hamilton (157 pounds) and Gabe Lilly (174 pounds).

New Golden Eagle Connor Eck has already proven himself at the Journeymen, winning his pool a year ago when he wrestled for Lock Haven. Weston Pisarchick (125 pounds) and Ethan Wiant will see their first action of the 2025-26 season after missing the opening weekend.

Programs slated to send wrestlers are Appalachian State, Army, Binghamton, Bloomsburg, Columbia, Duke, Franklin & Marshall, Harvard, Hofstra, Indiana, Lehigh, Lock Haven, Long Island, Maryland, Northern Iowa, Penn, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Virginia, and Navy.

All matches will be streamed on FloWrestling, with live brackets available on FloArena.
