Men's Swimming & Diving Beats Shippensburg

CLARION, Pa. — Clarion men's swimming & diving secured numerous winning finishes against Shippensburg at Tippin Natatorium on Friday, as the Golden Eagles beat the Raiders 188.5 – 44.5 in a PSAC Dual.
 
Connor Hoy led the charge with first-place finishes in the 1000 Free, 400 IM  and 500 Free, contributing significantly to the team's performance in the swimming events.  The freshman started with a victory in the 1000 Free, clocking in with a time of 10:19.08 that was more than 20 seconds ahead of teammate Kevin Santos' second place finish. He followed with a win in the 400 IM, finishing in a time of 4:21.15., and wrapped his night with a win in the 500 Free at 4:54.39, topping Shippensburg's Ian Deck by 15 seconds.
 
Dominic Cortopassi excelled in sprint events, winning the 100 Free in 47.25 and the 200 Breast with a time of 2:10.76. Jacob Rider contributed significantly with a win in the 200 Free, finishing in 1:45.08, and secured first in the 200 Back at 1:57.10.
 
Gavin Guckavan showcased his speed by capturing the 50 Free in 21.51 and was part of the victorious 200 Medley Relay Team. RJ Schaffer, Mason Irwin and Mason Peck were opening three legs of the race, building a significant lead over the Raiders, and Guckavan put up the anchor leg with a time of 21.00.
 
The 200 Medley Relay Team of Peck, Cortopassi, Guckavan and Mason Irwin opened the night with a win, finishing in a time of 1:34.81. The second unit of Jacob Rider, Rich Scholer, Joey Margita and Ryan Ehlers took second with a time of 1:36.76. Irwin also won the 200 Fly, finishing in a time of 1:58.72.
 
In the diving events, Zakary Kennedy won the 1-meter Dive with a score of 323.40, following by Zach Schering's second place score of 310.65. Ethan Coronado was the winner in the 3-meter Dive with a score of 322.20, followed by Michael Flamm's 298.88.
