KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Golden Eagles (6-5, 1-2 PSAC) soared to a 75-61 win over Kutztown (2-4, 0-2 PSAC) on Saturday at Keystone Arena. With an impressive 20 points off the Golden Bears' 21 turnovers, Clarion took full advantage of their opponent's mistakes and rode a sizzling day from the field for the win.
The game kicked off with the Golden Eagles setting the pace.
Trey Nelson nailed an early 3-pointer at the 19:28 mark, thanks to an assist from
Kendon Peebles. The Golden Eagles thrived on fast breaks and dominating the paint, with
Jeremy Thomas II making his presence felt through a powerful dunk and several layups, expanding their lead.
Clarion's momentum never wavered, as they kept forcing turnovers and turning them into fast-break points.
Justice Easter and
Ricky Goode-Wright landed crucial shots from downtown, while Peebles furthered the lead with a timely 3-pointer. Peebles closed the half with another 3-pointer with seven seconds left, sending the Golden Eagles into the locker room with a 40–27 advantage.
The second half saw Clarion continue their offensive charge. Nelson opened with a quick three-pointer and a layup, stretching the score to 45-30.
Aydan Cunningham added a layup and a fast-break finish with help from Nelson. The defense stood strong, racking up steals and defensive rebounds to maintain control.
Throughout the half, the Golden Eagles capitalized on their opportunities with sharp shooting from beyond the arc and solid bench contributions from
Gavin Cote and
Cam Crockett, who both hit threes. Despite some turnovers, the Golden Eagles' defense stifled the Golden Bears, holding them back with key defensive rebounds and a block from Thomas. Clarion kept their lead intact, finishing the game strong at 75-61.
Cunningham led the charge with 19 points, hitting eight of 12 field goals, including three treys. Nelson followed with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting, adding four 3-pointers and two steals. Thomas dished out a team-high five assists and grabbed eight rebounds. Easter was a defensive stalwart with four steals and four assists, anchoring the Golden Eagles' effort.
