LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- The Golden Eagles traveled to Rider for their first tri-meet of the season. The Golden Eagles fell by a 34-6 score to the hosting Broncs before dropping a 32-9 decision to Columbia.
Travis Clawson opened the match for the Golden Eagles at 125 pounds against Rider's No. 19 Tyler Klinsky. Klinsky secured three takedowns en route to his 9-3 decision victory, giving Rider the early 3-0 lead.Â
Joey Fischer was next up for the Golden Eagles at 133 pounds. Fischer started off strong with a takedown in the first period by a throw by. He was then get called for an illegal slam near the edge of the mat before riding out Kaden Naame to end the 1
st period up 3-1. Fischer deferred his choice to the 2
nd period; Naame would choose the down position. After a stall call on Naame midway through the 2
nd period, he would earn an escape with 20 seconds left to cut it to 3-2. Fischer took down to start the 3
rd period where he earned an immediate reversal off a switch to increase his lead to 5-2. A second stalling call, followed by a late escape by Naame and a riding time point for Fischer, secured him the victory by a 7-3 decision and evening the score at 3-3.
The Golden Eagles proceeded to drop their next three matches to the Broncs. At 141 pounds No. 13 Elijah Griffin defeated
Scott Johnson by pinfall (0:57), at 149 pounds Dylan Layton defeated
Oliver Fairchild by tech-fall 17-2 (7:00) and at 157 pounds James Farina defeated
Wesley Barnes by an 8-2 decision extending the Broncs' lead to 17-3.
Alejandro Herrera-Rondon was next up for the Golden Eagles at 165 pounds. In the last minute of the 1
st period, he secured a takedown off an initial single leg shot, finishing it in the waterfall position to take a 3-0 lead. After a ride out, Herrera-Rondon started in the down position earning a quick escape. At the end of the 2
nd period, he would earn a second takedown off a shot by Rider's Brendon Abdon, increasing his lead to 7-0. Abdon chose neutral to start the final period where the score would remain giving Herrera-Rondon the 7-0 decision victory. The victory would cut Rider's lead to 17-6.
The Golden Eagles dropped their next three matches against the Broncs. At 174 pounds, Enrique Munguia pinned
Patrick Cutchember (1:34), then at 184 pounds, Giovanni Alejandro defeated
Adrian Gacek in a hard-fought match by a 5-1 decision, and at 197 pounds, No. 23 Brock Zurawski defeated
Ethan Wiant by tech-fall 20-3 (6:10).
John Meyers closed out the dual for the Golden Eagles at 285 pounds. After a scoreless 1
st period, and trading escapes to start the 2
nd and 3
rd periods by both wrestlers, the fireworks came towards the end of the match. Meyers scored a late takedown against Hogan Swenski who then quickly reversed Meyers. Rider's corner threw the challenge brick challenging the initial call of a Meyers takedown. Rider won the challenge, which instead of a Meyers takedown and Swenski reversal, the new ruling was a Swenski takedown. Instead of Meyers having a 4-3 lead, he's now down 4-1. Meyers earned another quick escape and nearly had the takedown at the end of the match, but Swenski held the whizzer preventing Meyers from securing the takedown. Coach Ferraro would throw the challenge brick, but the call would stand giving Swenski the 4-2 decision victory, leading to a 34-6 Rider victory.

The second match against Columbia began once again at 125 pounds with
Travis Clawson. He would give up a takedown in the 1
st period to Sulayman Bah but earn a point for a technical violation on Bah. To start the 2
nd period, Clawson elected to choose bottom and earned an escape where the score would remain 3-2 for the rest of the period. Bah chose bottom to start the 3
rd period earning the escape, making it a 4-2 match. Clawson then earned a takedown and four near-fall points to take the lead in the match. After another escape by Bah, Clawson would add another takedown and close out the match on top winning by a 12-5 decision, putting Clarion on top 3-0.
Joey Fischer was next up for the Golden Eagles at 133 pounds. Fischer began the scoring with a first period takedown against Evin Gursoy. Gursoy escaped before the end of the 1
st period, making it 3-1 at the end of the period. Fischer chose neutral to start the 2
nd period, but the score would remain 3-1 heading into the final period. Gursoy earned an escape after starting in the down position, but Fischer would hang on for the hard fought 3-2 decision victory, increasing the Golden Eagles lead to 6-0.
The Golden Eagles dropped their next two matches. At 141 pounds Lorenzo Frezza defeated
Scott Johnson by tech-fall 23-7 (5:54) and at 149 pounds KJ Monaco defeated
Oliver Fairchild by a 6-3 decision, giving Columbia the lead 8-6.
Next up for the Golden Eagles at 157 pounds was
Wesley Barnes. After a scoreless 1
st period, Barnes deferred his decision to the 3
rd period and Columbia's Charlie Scanlan chose to go down. Scanlan earned an escape and took a 1-0 lead into the 3
rd period. Barnes earned an escape and a takedown in the 3
rd period to earn the hard-fought decision victory by a score of 4-1, regaining the lead for the Golden Eagles 9-8.
At 165 pounds,
Alejandro Herrera-Rondon battled back from giving up an early takedown in the with an escape in the 1
st period and then a reversal in the 2
nd. The score was tied 3-3 going into the 3
rd period; Cesar Alvan chose neutral to start the period. Alvan secured a 3
rd period takedown to increase his lead to 6-3. Despite a Herrera-Rondon escape, he was unable to get the takedown on his feet, dropping a tough 6-4 decision. Columbia regained the lead over the Golden Eagles 11-9.
The last four matches of the dual meet the Golden Eagles would lose by bonus point victory for the Lions. At 174 pounds Nick Fine defeated
Patrick Cutchember by tech-fall 16-1 (5:00) scoring 3 takedowns in the match. At 184 pounds Aaron Ayzerov pinned
Adrian Gacek (3:53) after a 2
nd period reversal put him on top. At 197 pounds Jack Wehmeyer defeated
Ethan Wiant by a 13-2 major decision and at 285 pounds Vincent Mueller pinned
