LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The Golden Eagles wrestling team traveled to Lock Haven for their first dual of the season. The Golden Eagles started off strong but couldn't keep the momentum going and ultimately fell short by a score of 30-10 on Friday.

Travis Clawson opened up the match for the Golden Eagles at 125 pounds. Clawson would fall behind early on a takedown and two near-fall points via a Merkle from Lock Haven's Curtis Nelson. Clawson would quickly earn an escape and then push the pace for the rest of the 1st period, but the score would remain 5-1 at the end of the period. Clawson deferred his choice to the third period, and Nelson would start in the down position earning a quick escape. Midway through the 2^nd period Clawson would earn his first takedown of the match on a re-attack and four near-fall points to take an 8-6 lead at the end of the 2^nd period. It was more of the same in the 3^rd period for Clawson who earned a quick escape followed by another takedown. Clawson added four more near-fall points and a riding time point for a 17-6 major decision victory.

Joey Fischer was the next man up for the Golden Eagles at 133 pounds. Fischer earned a nice takedown on No. 33 Gable Strickland that immediately took him to his back at the end of the 1^st period, adding four near-fall points on top of it. Strickland would escape at the end of the period, making it a 7-1 match going into the 2^nd period. Strickland would earn an escape in the 2^nd period after starting in the down position, making it a 7-2 match where the score remained for the rest of the period. Fischer would earn an escape in the 3^rd period where the score remained for the rest of the match earning the upset decision victory 8-2. Increasing the Golden Eagles lead to 7-0.

The Golden Eagles would drop their next two matches by tech-fall at 141 pounds and 149 pounds. As No. 22 Wyatt Henson defeated Scott Johnson 21-5 (5:14) and No. 29 Lucas Kapusta defeated Matthew Smith 21-4 (4:52) respectively. Wesley Barnes wrestled a hard-fought match against Lock Haven's Nick Stampoulos but would fall to a 4-2 decision as a 1^st period takedown by Stampoulos ended up being the difference. Giving the Bald Eagles the lead at the intermission 13-7.

After the intermission Alejandro Herrera-Rondon went out for the Golden Eagles at 165 pounds. Herrera-Rondon would earn a first period takedown after nearly getting taken down by a slide-by. He would bounce back to his feet and earn his three points with an emphatic mat return. Herrera-Rondon would ride out Ousmane Duncanson to close out the 1^st period and earn a quick escape to start the second. The score would remain 4-0 until midway through the 3^rd period when Duncanson earned a takedown on a re-attack off a Herrera-Rondon shot. Herrera-Rondon would quickly recover earning a reversal and remained on top for the remainder of the match, winning a 6-3 decision. Closing the Bald Eagles lead to just 13-10.

Lock Haven would quickly respond with a pinfall victory at 174 pounds for No. 32 Avery Bassett over Gabe Lilly extending their lead to 19-10 heading into the 184-pound matchup. Despite a strong start from Adrian Gacek, Lock Haven's Sam Gautreau battled back and came back to defeat Gacek by a 16-12 decision further increasing their lead to 22-10.

The Golden Eagles dropped their final two matches of the dual by major decision. At 197 pounds No. 32 Tucker Hogan beat Clarion's Ethan Wiant by a score of 12-3 and at 285 pounds Kade Sottolano defeated Lucas Thomas by a score of 16-4, leading to a 30-10 victory for Lock Haven.
