AKRON, Ohio – The Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team hit a number of important milestones on Saturday at the 2025 Zippy Invite, including an NCAA B cut by
Dominic Cortopassi for the second time at this meet.
Clarion was well represented in the A Finals on Saturday night, with Cortopassi leading the charge. he tied for fourth place in the 100 Fly with a time of 47.99, well beyond the NCAA B cut mark of 48.48 and the second best time of his career in the event. In the 100 Breast, senior
Gavin Guckavan claimed fifth place with his own NCAA B cut, touching the wall in 54.99 for a new career best time.
Freshman
Connor Hoy also earned an A Final spot, finishing sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.75.
The Golden Eagles also saw strong performances in the B Finals. Freshman
Jacob Rider tied for ninth place in the 100 Back with a time of 49.54.
Mason Irwin secured 10th place in the 200 Free with a time of 1:41.16.
Other notable individual scorers included sophomore
Rich Scholer, who placed 11th in the 100 Breast (57.26), and senior
Mason Peck, who finished 13th in the 100 Fly (49.52). Sophomore
Logan Curtis took 14th in the 100 Back (52.51), while senior
Stewart Messer placed 15th in the 200 Free (1:45.17). Adding to the point total were sophomore
RJ Schaffer, who finished 15th in the 100 Back (54.33), senior
Ryan Ehlers, who claimed 15th in the 100 Breast (58.88), and junior
Kevin Santos, who secured 16th in the 400 IM (4:17.41).
In the 200 Free Relay, the Clarion 'A' squad of Guckavan, Irwin, Peck, and Rider finished in sixth place with a combined time of 1:22.91.
