The Clarion Golden Eagles travel to East Lansing, Mich. for a Sunday afternoon dual with the Michigan State Spartans (Feb. 2). Start time at Jenison Field House is 1:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagles at a Glance
After falling to Cleveland State last Friday (Jan. 24), Clarion swept a Sunday doubleheader in New York (Jan. 26) – first downing Kent State and then Long Island University (LIU). The pair of victories broke a four-match skid that dated back to Jan. 12. With the win over Kent State, Clarion's record in the MAC improved to 2-4.
Travis Clawson went 3-0 for the weekend, recording majors against Cleveland State and Kent State and a decision in the LIU match. During those three matches, he scored 32 points, while giving up 10. Clawson was the only Golden Eagle to have an undefeated weekend.
Austin Chapman went 2-0 in Sunday's twinbill. He was arguably the hero against LIU, earning a major decision in the final bout to break a 15-15 tie and give Clarion the win.

Judah Aybar and
Brady Worthing earned their first career Division I dual meet victories during the Kent State match. Aybar's win was made all the more memorable as it came by way of fall.

Ethan Wiant were 1-1 on Sunday.
Schickel and Wiant continue to have winning records, the former 17-11 and the latter 12-10.
John Worthing wrestled against Cleveland State, but did not see action during the New York excursion. He is ranked 32
nd in the NCAA Coaches Poll with a record of 17-5.
Clarion enters the Michigan State dual with a 3-9 record. The Golden Eagles are 2-2 in away matches.
Clarion vs. Michigan State
The Golden Eagles have wrestled the Spartans nine times since the teams first met in 1994.
Clarion has experienced limited success in the series, going 2-7 – the wins coming in 2013 and 2015. They currently have a four-match losing streak against the Spartans and have never beat them in The Great Lakes State.
Clarion most recently wrestled Michigan State in December 2023, the Golden Eagles losing in Tippin Gymnasium, 25-13. Schickel and Worthing both won decisions. Wiant saw action as well. Michigan State has a pair of ranked wrestlers – 197-pounder Remy Martin (18th NCAA Coaches/26th FloWresting/25th Intermat) and 285-pounder Max Vanadia (33rd NCAA Coaches & FloWrestling).
The Spartans own a 3-5 record and are 1-4 at home. They have not won a Big Ten match this season. Michigan State has lost its most recent two matches, falling to Nebraska (Jan. 26) and Indiana (Jan. 24). The Spartans won only a single decision in each of those contests. The Spartans last win occurred Jan. 19 at home, a 25-13 victory against MAC opponent Buffalo. Michigan State's seniors will be celebrated at Jenison Field House on Sunday.
