Track & Field Hits Historical Marks at YSU Last Chance

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --- The Golden Eagles track & field team made their third trip of the season to Youngstown State on Friday night, competing at the YSU Last Chance Invitational.

From a historical standpoint, the most significant results of the day came courtesy of Leah Perry and Emily Pleslusky. Pleslusky improved on her previous career-best in the indoor Pole Vault, hitting a height of 3.17m to rank 15th in the field on Friday. Her previous indoor PR of 3.10m ranked second on the all-time performance list at Clarion, and this evening's performance improved that mark.  The program record is 3.20m, set by Jessica Hamrick in 2015.

Perry improved her own standing in the top-five in the 60 Hurdles. The senior broke her year-old PR by the slimmest of margins on Friday, doing so in the finals of the event. After placing fifth in the prelims with a time of 9.49m that was 0.03 seconds behind her career best of 9.46 seconds, Perry took fourth overall in the field with a time of 9.45, just barely breaking her career best. Perry was just 0.03 seconds behind Jessica Vitous's fourth-place performance; she hit a time of 9.42 in 2014.

Another sprinter that stood out on Friday was Raegan Stader, who ran the fastest 60m times of any Golden Eagle this season and took fourth place in the finals as a result. The freshman two-sport athlete started her day with a time of 8.24 in the 60m prelims, already the best time of the season for Clarion in the event. She followed that up with an even better time in the finals, crossing the line in 8.22 for a new PR and the best time of the year for the program. Stader also performed well in the 200m, placing 12th overall with a time of 27.75.

In the distance events, Abby Stitzer added a race win to her resume with the fastest time in the field in the 800m. She shaved more than a second off her previous season-best of 2:21.04, breaking the tape with a time of 2:20.07. That ranks as the third-fastest time in the PSAC this season in the event, making Stitzer a contender at the upcoming PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

All told, the distance events yielded three other top-10 finishes. Jessica Shelderfer took ninth place in the 3000m with a time of 11:41.59, while Hope Bundash took 10th in the Mile with a time of 5:40.26 and Abigail Butera placed 10th in the 5000m with a 19:17.00.

In the field, Maddison Ho enjoyed the highest placement of the day in the Shot Put, placing third with a mark of 11.43m. The scoring mark came on her third attempt of the event, and came up just 0.08m shy of a new PR. Delaney Yost took fourth in the Triple Jump, setting a new PR with a mark of 9.94m. Emily Pleslusky also finished in the top-10 in the event, taking seventh with a 9.10m.

Elsewhere in the field, Emily Foster placed sixth in the High Jump with a mark of 1.40m, just shy of her own PR. Madison Foringer also had a sixth place finish, hitting a mark of 14.17m in the Weight Throw.

Rounding things out on Friday was the 4x400m Relay team of Breonna Buck, Ciara DiMauro, Perry and Stitzer. They took fourth place in the field with a time of 4:22.91.
