Game Recap: Basketball (Women's) |

Women's Basketball Falls to #9/13 Seton Hill

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles women's basketball team jumped all over a top-10 opponent in the first quarter, but the Seton Hill defense locked in as the #9/13 Griffins earned an 80-64 win in Tippin Gym on Saturday afternoon. Clarion cut the margin down to two possessions early in the fourth quarter before Seton Hill pulled away.

In the opening quarter it was the Clarion defense that set the tone, as the Golden Eagles went up 20-10 on the Griffins.  Madison Palek sparked a 10-0 run with a second-chance bucket after an offensive board by Malayziah Etheredge, and she swatted away an Abby Mankins shot on the next possession. Alyssa Terza later knocked down three-pointers on back-to-back possessions, with the latter coming at the 2:37 mark to make it 20-10. The Griffins rallied late in the quarter but Arianna Seitz added a trey of his own to make it 24-18 before the break.

Seton Hill turned the tables in the second quarter, scoring 16 unanswered points to start the period. Corinne Eisner put the Griffins ahead 34-24 with 3:05 left in the half, and the Golden Eagles' scoring drought was not snapped until Zoe Guice's free throws 11 seconds later. Siara Conley broke the field goal drought with 1:52 to go in the half, scoring in the paint to make it 36-27.

It was still a 12-point game midway through the third quarter, but Guice sparked a Clarion rally with a steal and pass ahead to Arianna Seitz, who dished to Etheredge for a three-point shot on the fast break. Seitz scored on a drive at the 1:43 mark to make it 49-42, and the freshman forward later drilled a three-pointer to cut Seton Hill's advantage to 52-46 on the first possession of the fourth quarter. The Griffins pulled away with 11 unanswered points, and led by as many 23 points after Shaye Bailey's transition bucket at the 3:32 mark.

Seitz scored a team-high 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting and also added three rebounds and two blocks. Palek scored seven points and also pulled down 10 rebounds, and the freshman also chipped in four blocked shots and three steals.
