Clarion Sports Hall of Fame to Induct Seven in 2025

CLARION, Pa. --- The Clarion Sports Hall of Fame committee announced today that seven new members will be inducted into the 2025 HOF Class on Friday, April 25, 2025. The new inductees are Kellie (Bartman) Biddle (2008-11 - Volleyball), Tyler Falk (2014-17 -Baseball), Kim (Hanslovan) Marshall (2010-12 - Women's Track & Field), Margaret "Gie" Parsons (1990 – 2014 - Head Coach, Women's Basketball), John Peterman (1985 – 88 - Football), Ron L. Righter (1989 – 2014 - Head Coach, Men's Basketball) and Thomas C. Tomeo (1994-98 - Wrestling).
 
Clarion's 36th Annual Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, April 25 in Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium beginning at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public. There will be a pre-ceremony social for attendees in Tippin Gym at 5:30 p.m.
 
Ticket orders are being handled online by the Alumni Engagement Office at PennWest Clarion.  Reservations are $40 per person and are available online. Those paying by check should make them payable to CUF/Sports Hall of Fame.

KELLIE (BARTMAN) BIDDLE – WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL – 2012 Clarion Grad – Environmental Biology.
Kellie Bartman was a dominating and intimidating force from 2008 – 2011 at outside hitter for the Golden Eagle volleyball team earning All-Region and All-America honors under head coach Jennifer Herron. Her top season easily was the magical 2010 campaign when the Golden Eagles were a school record 32-5 overall, 1st in the PSAC-West at 17-2, won the PSAC title (first since 1988) and the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional, placing Clarion in the "Elite 8" of the NCAA Tournament. Bartman led the team with 455 kills, 288 digs, 70 blocks, 42 aces and 17 assists. She was named AVCA HM All-American, PSAC and Daktronics Atlantic Region "Player of the Year", 1st team All-Region and PSAC-West. In the PSAC title win over Edinboro (3-1), she led the way with 22 kills, 11 digs, 4 blocks, 2 assists and 1 ace. In the Atlantic Region title win over Cal (3-0), she collected 12 kills and 10 digs – locking her in as a big game performer. As a senior in 2011 she led Clarion to a 19-13 mark, 14-5 in the PSAC-West and an NCAA Regional Qualifier. Bartman was a 1st team PSAC-West and Daktronics All-Region selection with 379 kills, 240 digs, 54 blocks, 18 assists and 8 aces. Her sophomore year saw Clarion post a 26-10 mark, 15-4 in the PSAC-West and an NCAA Atlantic Region Qualifier. Bartman led the team with 422 kills, 270 digs, 73 blocks, 41 aces and 5 assists. She was voted 1st team PSAC-West and Daktronics and AVCA All-Region. As a freshman in 2008 she collected 241 kills, 48 blocks, 108 digs, 10 aces and 10 assists for a Golden Eagle team that finished 16-15 overall. When she graduated she ranked 2nd in Clarion history with 1,497 career kills, 2nd in attempts with 4,386 and third in points with 1,737.5. She also contributed 906 digs, 245 blocks, 101 aces and 50 assists. In her career the Eagles amassed a record of 93-43, a PSAC-West mark of 51-18, won a PSAC and Atlantic Region title, an NCAA "Elite 8" finish, 3 visits to the NCAA Regionals and PSAC Tournament. A 2012 Clarion grad in Environmental Biology, she is currently a Nurse Practitioner at Cecil Family Medicine, part of the UPMC Health System. A 2008 graduate of Ringgold High, Kellie currently resides in Monongahela, Pa. with her husband Christopher.
 
TYLER FALK – BASEBALL – 2017 Clarion Grad – Finance.
Tyler Falk, a highly talented and Academic All-America baseball player, was without question one the all-time great scholar athletes ever to don a Clarion uniform in any sport. A three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, he also led the Golden Eagles in batting average all four years (2014-2017) of his amazing career under coaches Mike Brown and Anthony Williams. Coming to Clarion from Riverside High School where he led the Panthers to two PIAA titles, Falk had a great freshman season at first base in 2014 and was named PSAC-West "Rookie of the Year" and all PSAC-West. He led the team hitting at .363 (41 for 113) with 18 rbi's, 16 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 triples and 8 walks. In 2015 he really upped his game notching a .378 batting average (45 for 119) with 31 rbi's, 25 runs scored, 6 doubles, 7 home runs and 18 walks. His OPS was 1.062 and was named Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American. In 2016 Falk hit .374 (52 for 139) with 30 rbi's, 18 runs, 13 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs. He also walked 16 times and had a OPS of .971. Recognized for his academic prowess he was named a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Falk continued his onslaught in blue and gold as a senior in 2017 hitting at a.375 clip, connecting with 48 hits in 128 at bats. He scored a career high 32 runs with 12 doubles and 3 home runs. Opponents pitched around Falk, walking him 30 times. He posted an OPS of 1.030 and was named an All PSAC-West selection. Graduating with a perfect 4.0 gpa, he was not only named as a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American, but out of all Division II players he was named Academic All-American of the Year. His career numbers are impressive. He played in every Clarion game over 4 seasons – 159 – and has the 2nd highest career batting average of .373 (186 of 499) of all-time. His 186 career hits rank second, 36 doubles and 72 walks are third and 91 runs scored and 96 rbi's are fourth. A 2017 Clarion grad in Business – Finance, he is currently a part owner at the Centauri Advisory Group in Zelienople. A native of Fombell, Pa., Tyler and wife Allison (Clarion 2017) reside in Neshannock Township.
 
KIM (HANSOLVAN) MARSHALL – Women's Track & Field - 2012 Clarion Grad – Education/ 2014 – M.Ed. Education.
Kim Hanslovan, a two-time NCAA Division II All-America in the Javelin, has the highest NCAA nationals finish by any Clarion Track & Field athlete, an amazing accomplishment under coach D.J. Bevevino. After transferring to Clarion from Penn State, Kim started her first outdoor season at Clarion in the Spring of 2010 making history. On March 24 at the Grove City Open she broke Julie Evanoski's school record of 145-8 (2003) with a throw of 146-4. A month later she qualified for NCAA D-II Nationals with a Clarion record throw of 156-5 winning the Ed Fry Open at IUP. After placing 5th at the Penn Relays (top 4 were D-I), she won the PSAC Championship at West Chester in bad weather conditions throwing 137. She went to the NCAA Division II Nationals in Charlotte, N.C. and set another Clarion record throwing 160-3, earning a second place finish in the Javelin – the highest placing of any track & field athlete at Clarion. That season she was a three-time PSAC Field Athlete of the Week and named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. After red-shirting the 2011 outdoor season, she came back strong again in 2012. She started the year winning the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina with an amazing throw of 153 and automatically qualified for NCAA nationals. She also broke the meet record held by Minnesota's Ruby Radocaj which was 149-7. Unfortunately, Kim injured her elbow on the record throw and it hampered her the remainder of the season. After sitting out a month, Kim placed 6th at the Penn Relays (141-7) and was 5th at the PSAC's guarding her elbow until the nationals. The Division II Championships were held in Pueblo, Colorado and Hanslovan worked her way to a fine throw of 157-5 in the finals earning All-America status with a 6th place finish, despite throwing in pain. She was also named PSAC Field Athlete of the Week twice in 2012 as well as named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team for the second time. Also participating in Indoor Track from 2010 – 2012, she placed 8th at PSAC's in shot put (36-09) in 2010, placed 4th in the shot in 2011 (37-03.25) in 2011 and 9th in the shot in 2012. A 2012 Clarion graduate in Education, she earned her M.Ed. in Technology Education/Instructional Technology from Clarion in 2014. A 2007 DuBois High grad, she is currently a Chemistry teacher at Commonwealth Charter Academy. Prior to that Kim was a  Biology Teacher at Clearfield High School for ten years. Kim and husband Stephen reside in Luthersburg, Pa.
 
MARGARET "GIE" PARSONS – WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH – 1990 – 2014
"Gie" Parsons arrived in Clarion for the 1990 season and set women's basketball on fire in the PSAC. Starting in 1991, Parsons led the Golden Eagles on an unbelievable five-year ride that saw Clarion post a 117-33 overall record (78%), a PSAC-West mark of 50-10 (83.3%), 5 consecutive PSAC-West titles, 3 PSAC Championships, Elite 8 appearances in 1991 and 1994, and Sweet 16 finishes in 1992 and 1993. The 1991 season set the tone. Posting a 24-8 record and a 9-3 mark in the PSAC-West, Clarion won its first PSAC title topping Bloomsburg in the semis 70-59 and Lock Haven 87-71 in the title game. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA D-II "Elite 8" beating the Huskies (80-76), then the Bald Eagles (77-70) for the East Region title. Clarion was 25-4 in 1992, won the West (10-2) and advanced to the NCAA "Sweet 16". The 1993 squad was 24-6 overall, won the West again at 11-1, won the PSAC title game 104-81 over Edinboro and advanced to the "Sweet 16". In 1994 Clarion was 26-4 overall and 11-1 in winning the West. The Eagles won the PSAC title with a 71-69 win over Cal and went on to win the East Region with a stirring 71-67 victory over #1 seed Pace. A 75-69 loss to North Alabama ended another "Elite 8" season. The 5th West title came in 1995 with a 9-3 division record and a runner-up finish at PSAC's. Qualifying for the NCAA's, the season ended with at 18-11. That run was led by Clarion Hall of Famers Shelly Respecki, Leatha Dudeck, Shannon Coakley, Amy Coon, Carlita Jones and Mona Gaffney. They set 14 NCAA D-II Records including 148 points scored in a game and 78 in a half vs Westminster (92-93), 26 three's made in a game and 52 attempted vs Ashland (91-92) and 386 three's made in a season (91-92). Clarion went back to the NCAA Playoffs in 2005 when the Eagles were 23-7 overall and 10-2 in the West led by Heather Cigich. The top 12 career scorers and 8 of 9 rebounders played for Parsons. She was PSAC-West "Coach of the Year" in 1991, 92, 2005 and 2008. Inducted into the Pa. Sports Hall of Fame – "Tick" Cloherty Western Chapter in 2011, SRU HOF in 2021,  Region "Coach of the Year" in 2005 and 1991 and Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992 from Pgh. Chamber of Commerce. "Gie" came to Clarion from Thiel where she was 110-73 in 8 seasons and 97-46 in her final 6 years. A native of Monroeville, Pa. and a 1967 Gateway grad, she earned her HPE degree from Slippery Rock in 1971.
 
JOHN PETERMAN – FOOTBALL - 1990 Clarion Grad – Education.
An All-America strong safety who poured his heart and soul into every play, John Peterman was a defensive back and special teams player for the Golden Eagles from 1985-88. Playing for Hall of Fame coach Gene Sobolewski, Peterman had his top season as a senior in 1988. He led the team with 136 total tackles, including a team leading 63 solo and 73 assisted tackles. At that time 136 tackles was the third best single season total in Clarion history. He also posted 3 fumbles caused, 3 fumble recoveries, broke up 2 passes and 1 qb sack. Top game was an unbelievable 25 tackles versus Shippensburg. In 1988 he was named Associated Press Second Team All-American, plus First Team PSAC-West and All-District. In 1987 the Golden Eagles were 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC-West. Peterman totaled 74 tackles (30 solo, 44 assists), 6 pass break ups, 2 interceptions and recovered 1 fumble. He returned 28 punts for 183 yards. John earned 1st team PSAC-West honors and was PSAC Defensive "Player of the Week" vs SRU with 17 tackles. As a sophomore in 1986 Peterman registered 49 tackles (31 solo) in his first year as a starter at strong safety. He contributed 7 pass break ups, and 1 fumble recovery, while returning 18 punts for 134 yards and 10 kickoffs for 155 yards. He returned a punt 56 yards for a td in a 14-0 season opening win vs Fairmont State. John lettered on "D" and special teams in 1985 on a team that finished 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the West. Peterman totaled 265 career tackles (126 solo, 139 assisted). His 265 lifetime stops were 6th at Clarion when he graduated, while 126 solos ranked 5th and 139 assists tied for 8th. He had 15 pass break-ups, 5 fumbles recovered, 4 interceptions, 3 fumbles caused and 1 sack. John returned 46 punts for 317 yards and 1 td and 10 kickoffs for 155 yards. A 1990 Clarion grad in Education, John retired in 2025 after serving 8 years as A.D. at Kiski Area. The 1985 Penn Hills grad was head coach at Leechburg from 1992-95 – left coaching – then came back as assistant at Franklin Regional (2005-06), A.D. at Penn Hills (2007-2017), and head football coach at Penn Hills from 2012-2016. John and wife Gloria (Clarion '88) have a daughter Regina (Clarion 2010) and reside in Leechburg.
 
RON L. RIGHTER – MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH – 1989 – 2014
Ron Righter came to Clarion in the 1988-89 season after a 7-year stint as George Raveling's assistant coach and the rest is Clarion history. With 402 career wins (402-299 – 57.3%) Ron is simply the winningest men's basketball coach in Clarion history. He led the Golden Eagles to 18 winning seasons, three PSAC-West titles (1997, 2000, & 2005) and the school's only PSAC Championship in 2001. He had an amazing 9-year span from 1997 through 2005 when the Golden Eagles were a remarkable 171-79, a winning percentage of 68.4%. He was also 69-39 in the PSAC-West, a winning percentage of 63.9%. The 1997 squad started the run posting a 22-7 overall mark and a 9-3 record in winning the West. The Eagles were 20-7 overall and 8-4 in the West in 1998, 19-8 overall and 7-5 in the West in 1999 and won the West going 10-2 in the league and 20-7 overall in 2000. The 2001 PSAC Championship team ended 19-10 and 7-5 in the West, but the PSAC title run was amazing. It started by winning at IUP 79-73, then won the semifinals over Bloomsburg 70-65 (at Edinboro). The Eagles then won the PSAC Championship defeating West Chester 80-77 in a thrilling overtime game. The win also vaulted the Eagles into the NCAA Playoffs. In 2002 Clarion was 15-11 overall and 7-5 in the West, 19-10 overall and 7-5 in the West in 2003, 18-10 overall and 6-6 in the West in 2004 and 19-9 overall and 8-4 in 2005 while capturing the PSAC-West title. Righter coached some amazingly talented players led by Kwame Morton (1992-95), who was Clarion's and the PSAC's leading career scorer with 2,543 points and who led the nation in scoring average in 1995 at 32.5ppg. Other greats included Oronn Brown, Rollie Smith, David Shearer, Lormont Sharp, Ryan Wells and so many more. At the time of his retirement, 15 of Clarion's 29 career 1,000 point scorers were coached by Righter. He was PSAC-West "Coach of the Year" in 1997 and 2005. The 1975 St. Joseph's grad was a hoop standout there and inducted in their HOF in 1991. Head coach at Wilkes for 2 years (1980 & 81), he was George Raveling's Assistant at Washington State (1982 & 83), Iowa (1984 – 86) and USC (1987 – 88) before Clarion. He is also a member of the Bucks County Chapter of the PA. Sports HOF, C.B. West and Pittsburgh Basketball Club HOF and Markward Basketball Club "Player of the Past". A native of Doylestown, Pa. and a 1970 grad of Central Bucks West High School, Ron and wife Juliet currently reside in Perkasie, Pa. They have a son Matthew and daughter Emily.
 
THOMAS C. TOMEO – WRESTLING – 1998 Clarion Grad – Biology
Tom Tomeo was an NCAA Division I All-America wrestler at Clarion from 1994 through 1998 under Clarion Hall of Fame head coaches Jack Davis and Ken Nellis. Tomeo came to Clarion from Grove City High in 1994 where he was a 2-time PIAA Champion. Tom put together a Hall of Fame career with an overall record of 98-34 at 134 and 142 pounds. His career culminated with his best season in 1998 when he put together a 31-7 record and an 8th place All-America finish at 142-pounds. He opened the NCAA's with wins over David Inkman (Va. Tech) 6-3 and Willie Wineberg (Purdue) 4-1 before losing to eventual champion Jeff McGuinness (Iowa) 6-2. In the All-America round he defeated Dorian Hager (WVa.) 7-5 and stood on the All-America podium at 142-pounds finishing in 8th place at Cleveland State's Convocation Center. Clarion finished 24th as a team at NCAA's. Tomeo also EWL Champion and PSAC Champion in 1998 as well as Team Captain. In 1997 Tomeo wrestled at 142-pounds and posted a 17-10 mark, qualified for the NCAA D-I Nationals and went 3-2 at the NCAA's at the UNI-Dome helping Clarion to a 14th place team finish. He also placed 4th at EWL's and was a team captain. Tom red-shirted the 1996 season. His sophomore year in 1995 he had a tremendous campaign at 134-pounds with a season record of 31-8 and an NCAA Division I Qualifier. Going 1-2 at nationals, he helped the Golden Eagles to a 15th place team finish. He also won an individual PSAC title and placed second at EWL's, helping Clarion to an EWL team title and the Eagles second place finish at PSAC's. As a true freshman in 1994 Tom posted a 19-9 record at 134, placed 2nd at PSAC's and 5th at EWL's, helping Clarion win EWL and PSAC team titles. A 4-year starter and a two-year team captain, Tomeo notched a 98-34 career record, a three-time NCAA D-I Qualifier, nationals record of 7-7, a two-time PSAC Champion and an EWL winner. A 1998 Clarion grad with a degree in Biology, he is the owner and founder of Tomeo Technologies,  Tomeo T3 Wrestling and TNT Tours Travel. Tom and wife Anna have a daughter Emma and a son Ethan and reside in Jackson Center, Pa.
