Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles offense exploded for a pair of big innings late to narrow the gap, but the advantage built by Bloomsburg was too great as Clarion fell 19-12 to the Huskies in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The Golden Eagles scored 11 runs combined over the final three innings, touching up the Husky bullpen and taking advantage of a number of errors to rack up two innings of five runs in that span. Unfortunately for Clarion Bloomsburg had done much of the same in the first four innings, going ahead 9-1 before blowing up for a six-spot in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Â
Clarion's hit parade in the late innings led to some gaudy offensive stat lines.
Ethan Giangiulio continued his hot pace of late by going 3-for-6 with five RBIs and two runs scored, including a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.
Randy Carlo joined him in depositing a ball over the fence, with the latter hitting a three-run homer down the left field line in the top of the ninth inning to make it 19-12. Carlo also finished the game with three hits, while
Tyson Gill went 4-for-5 with three runs scored.
Â
Giangiulio got things going in the top of the first inning, ripping a hard shot to the pitcher's mound that plated
Griffin Snyder, who led off the game with a ground rule double to center field. The Huskies got the run back in the home half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch by
Jack Edner, and then they racked up three more runs in the bottom of the second to chase Edner and take a 4-1 lead.
Â
Bloomsburg's lead expanded next to 7-1, and then 9-1, before a six-run showing in the bottom of the sixth gave them a 14-run lead. Clarion bounced back in a big way in the top of the seventh, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring five runs. Giangiulio accounted for two of those runs, hitting a 3-1 pitch over the fence with two outs to make it 15-3, and a wild pitch with runners on second and third allowed Carlo to score later in the inning. Back to back Husky errors in the infield allowed the next two runs to score, with
Cole Yeager and
Brody Hinkle crossing the plate to make it 15-6.
Â
Giangiulio hit an RBI single to center field after
Tyson Gill's leadoff triple in the top of the eighth inning, making it 15-7, but the Huskies scored four runs on four hits and one error in the bottom of the eighth. Clarion batted around for the second time in the game in the ninth inning, sending 10 to the plate and scoring five runs on four hits, including Carlo's three-run homer and back-to-back RBI singles from Giangiulio and Gill.
