Clawson Reaches Finals, Highlights First Day at MACs

TRENTON, N.J. --- Travis Clawson won in a pair of upsets to earn a spot in the 125-pound final, highlighting the action for the Golden Eagles at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships at CURE Insurance Arena.

Entering the event as the seventh seed in the bracket, Clawson wrote another chapter in what has been a strong freshman season. With a random bye directly to the quarterfinals, he faced off against Rider's second-seeded Noah Michaels, who had beaten Clawson by technical fall in the final dual of the season. Clawson turned the tables on Michaels in the rematch, bouncing back from an early takedown to nearly tech fall his opponent. Michaels was called for a stall and an illegal hold, and Clawson reversed him before the end of the period for two points and a 4-3 lead. In the second Clawson rode Michaels for the duration and also earned four near fall points, and he stacked on another takedown and four point near fall to earn the 17-3 major decision.

In the quarterfinal match against George Mason's Ben Monn, Clawson trailed 3-1 after the first period, but he tied the score in the second after he rode Monn for two minutes and picked up two near fall points. He got an escape to start the third period and then added a takedown for good measure, earning a spot in the finals against top-seeded Bryce West of Northern Illinois.

Also still alive for Saturday's action is Adrian Gacek. The unseeded redshirt freshman opened his day with a win against Central Michigan's Adrien Cramer, scoring a takedown with just eight seconds remaining in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. He escaped from the bottom in the third period to go ahead 4-1 and fought off an attack from Cramer for the win. Gacek lost in the quarterfinal match to George Mason's Malachi DuVall but is still alive for an NCAA bid in the consolation bracket.

Rounding out the championship bracket wins was John Worthing, who recorded a win by fall in the first round before bowing out in the quarterfinals. Worthing snagged Kent State's Hunter Andel early in the second period and turned him to his back for a fall at the 3:37 mark. Worthing lost a tight match to George Mason's Logan Messer in the quarterfinal, and then fell to SIUE's Luke Odom.
