SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles track & field team endured wet and sloppy conditions on Saturday afternoon, competing on the second day of the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock.
Â
Abby Stitzer and
Abigail Butera both showed well in the 800m, with the former greatly improving on her first time of the season and the latter hitting her first PSAC qualifying mark in the event. Stitzer took sixth in the field with a time of 2:18.75, shaving three seconds off her first attempt of the year and logging a time that would be fifth in the PSAC based on the times entering the weekend. Butera, meanwhile, cracked the conference standard, taking 15
th overall with a time of 2:21.15.
Â
The other standout in the distance events was
Paige Brewer, who took 12
th in the field in the 3000m Steeplechase. Brewer crossed the line in a time of 12:42.62, knocking nearly 40 seconds off her attempt last week at Carnegie Mellon.
Â
In the sprint events,
Leah Perry reached the finals of the 100m Hurdles with a PR in the event. The senior crossed the finish line in a time of 15.23, which surpassed her previous best time of 15.33 in the event set at the Susquehanna River Hawk Multi last outdoor season. That time put her atop the second heat of the event by more than a quarter-second over Pitt-Johnstown's Ellie Zuro.
Â
Elsewhere in the sprints,
Ciara DiMauro finished in the upper half of the field in the 400m. The sophomore crossed the line in a time of 1:04.17 to take 18
th in the field.
Â
In the field, the best placement of the day came courtesy of
Autumn Pettinato. She placed fourth in the field in the Javelin, topping her mark of 38.05m from a week ago with a toss of 38.18m in her second attempt of the day.
Â
Checking just behind Pettinato as far as placement was
Renee Waterman. She took fifth place overall in the Discus, tossing the implement a distance of 29.76m that was roughly a meter shy of her career-best throw. Waterman had another top-10 finish in the field, taking ninth in the Shot Put with an attempt of 9.58m.
Â
Maddison Ho also competed in the Shot Put on Saturday, taking part in the championship flight. She placed 11
th in the most competitive field with a mark of 11.83m, hitting that distance on her third attempt of the day.
