Smith Leads Women's Golf at UC Invitational Day 2

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. --- The Golden Eagles women's golf team finished their first tournament of the season on Tuesday, placing 13th at the UC Invitational. Clarion improved by two strokes from Monday's performance at Edgewood Country Club, shooting a 345.

Hannah Smith posted the second-best round in program history on the second day of the tournament, carding a 74 and climbing 18 spots on the leaderboard to finish in 33rd overall. That score of 74 tied for seventh in the field on Tuesday, with six golfers tying for the low score of 73. Smith's round included two birdies with both coming on par fours – Nos. 3 and 15. She was dead even on the front nine of the course, posting a 34.

In historical context, Smith's 74 ranks second in program history for a single round, behind Jenna Rinker's 73 at the Baldwin Wallace Tournament on Sept. 12, 2009. By extension it is the best collegiate round of Smith's career, topping her 76 score at the 2023 Clarion Invitational.

Kennady Norton was second on the team both overall and on Tuesday, shooting an 85 to finish 55th with a score of 166 (81-85). She birdied her first hole of the day, making a three on the par-four No. 11. McKayla Kerle improved by two strokes from her first round, carding an 89 to finish with a two round score of 180 (91-89). Conversely, she made birdie on her final hole of the day, the par-four No. 9. Rylee Thompson and Amber Roth both shot 97 on Tuesday.
