Passantino Named PSAC West ST Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced their weekly football award winners on Monday. Clarion's Frankie Passantino III was named the PSAC West Special Teams Athlete of the Week for Sept. 15 after contributing in numerous ways to the Golden Eagles' 31-24 win over Shippensburg.

The senior punter kicked seven times on Saturday, landing three punts inside the 20-yard line with just one touchback and sending one punt 52 yards. The highlight of the day, though, came in the third quarter, when he contributed to the Golden Eagles' final touchdown of the day - one that proved essential, as it turned out. With a Clarion drive stalling near the goal line, the Golden Eagles lined up for a short field goal. Passantino, the holder, took the snap from Michael Ippoliti and rolled out to the right, finding a wide open Mathew McGregor for an easy five-yard touchdown pass.

This is the third time this year a Golden Eagle has won a weekly football award this season. Zay Brisbane was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on Sept. 1 after the Golden Eagles' win over Wheeling, and Anthony Guercio was selected as the PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week on Sept. 8 after Clarion's victory over West Virginia Wesleyan.

Clarion has won three straight games to start the 2025 season, their first three-game win streak of any kind since a four-gamer in 2019 and their best start to a season since 2015. The Golden Eagles will be back at home on Saturday, Sept. 20 to host Shepherd.
