GENEVA, Ohio –- The Golden Eagle track & field team knocked off the rust in its first appearance of the 2026 calendar year, competing at the SPIRE Midwest Open on Saturday.
Abigail Butera recorded one of the best runs in program history in the 5000m, with the sophomore taking fourth overall and first among non-Division I athletes in the event. Butera finished the race in a time of 17:57.10, marking a new PR in the event and moving her into second place on the all-time indoor performance list in program history. That pushed her past Melissa Terwilliger's 2004 PR of 17:59.7 in the event and trails only Clarion Sports Hall of Famer Erin Richard's record of 16:50.7.
The other highlight on the track for Clarion was the Distance Medley Relay team of
Emmy Davis,
Cheyenne Zeedyk,
Abby Stitzer and
Raechel Braun. They won the event with a time of 13:17.02.
The top finish for the Golden Eagles in the field came in the Weight Throw, with
Madison Foringer taking eighth in the field of 29 athletes. The senior thrower sent the implement a distance of 13.80m, putting her fourth among non-Division I competitors and eight overall in the field.
