CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Golden Eagles wrestling team finished competing today at the Southern Scuffle, with
Travis Clawson competing in the blood round on Sunday morning.
Â
Clawson was matched up with Navy's Andrew Binni in the blood round. The 1
st period of the match went scoreless after which Binni chose the down position to start the 2
nd period. Binni earned a quick escape from Clawson to take a 1-0 lead. Multiple scoring attempts were made by both wrestlers, but the score remained 1-0 heading into the 3
rd period. Clawson chose the down position to start the period, earning an immediate escape to tie the score at 1.
Â
Clawson got to work immediately pushing the pace against Binni, who got a stall call early in the 3
rd period. Then it was Binni who created the offense he got deep on a single leg shot. That looked like he was destined to score, but Clawson fended off the scoring opportunity towards the edge of the mat and was able to get a fresh start. The final seconds of regulation ticked away, but the score remained tied 1-1 headed to a sudden victory period. Clawson shot immediately off the whistle, but Binni defended and countered with a single leg shot and switched to a double leg for the finish. Binni earned the takedown along with four near-fall points to defeat Clawson in sudden victory 8-1.
