CLARION, Pa. --- The College Sports Communicators announced their 2025 Academic All-District football team on Tuesday. Five members of the Golden Eagles football team –
Jack Capotosto,
Anthony Guercio,
Andrew Kurtas,
Luke Shaffer and
Zack Slomers - made the list, which recognizes academic and athletic achievement.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athletes must be a sophomore or older academically and in terms of their eligibility, must maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA or better, and must have played in either 90 percent of their team's competitions or started 66 percent of their team's competitions.
Guercio and Kurtas will also move forward to the Academic All-American ballot. That team will be announced on January 27.
Capotosto (3.73 – Integrated Business) started in all 11 games on the defensive line and was a force on the interior. He finished the year with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks and was officially credited with two quarterback hits.
Guercio (3.69 – Business Administration) was a First Team All-PSAC and Second Team All-Super Region 1 selection at quarterback. He battled through injuries to throw for 2,081 yards and 19 touchdowns while also rushing for 463 yards and seven scores.
Kurtas (3.69 – Psychology) was a First Team All-Super Region 1 selection as well as a Don Hansen
Football Gazette All-America Honorable Mention. He was one of only two kickers in the PSAC to make 10 or more field goals in 2025, and only five kickers in the country converted field goals at a better rate.
Shaffer (3.74 – Chemistry) was a special teams demon for the Golden Eagles, appearing primarily in kickoff and punt coverage. He led the team with nine total special teams tackles, including a team-high seven on kickoff coverage.
Slomers (3.59 – Business Administration) was another key component of the special teams package for the Golden Eagles, while also making a handful of plays on offense. He finished the year with 13 catches for 219 yards, an average of 16.8 yards per reception, as well as a 54-yard catch.
