Quick Notes
  • Clarion heads on the road for a PSAC West road clash against Seton Hill, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. at Offutt Field in Greensburg.
  • This will be the 13th meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Griffins, with Clarion owning a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The Golden Eagles are coming off a gut-wrenching 26-20 double overtime loss to California (PA) last week, with Clarion tying the score late but falling in the second extra frame.
  • Quarterback Jase Ferguson ranks among the best in Division II in terms of total offense per game (312.0 ypg) and points responsible for per game (17.1).
  • Clarion's offense has converted 104 of their 143 first downs on first or second down, which equates to 72.7 percent of their first downs coming on early downs.
  • Running back Avante George has now scored a rushing touchdown in each of the last three games.
  • Tarell Allen-Tooks and Gabriel Laws rank in the top seven in the PSAC in total tackles, with both averaging better than 8.6 stops per game.
  • Safety Najhir Kibidor is second overall in the PSAC and first in the West division with three interceptions this year.
  • The Golden Eagles and Griffins are fairly evenly split in games played in Greensburg, with Seton Hill holding a 3-2 advantage in the five games played there.
  • Coincidence, or something more? Clarion has shown an uncanny knack for blocking Seton Hill kicks over the years. The Golden Eagles have blocked a combined 12 kicks over the course of the all-time series with the Griffins.

Series History
  • This will be the 13th meeting in the all-time series, with Clarion owning a 7-5 advantage in games against Seton Hill. The Golden Eagles won five of the first seven contests between the teams but the Griffins have since won three of the last five meetings.
  • The last road win for Clarion was on Oct. 8, 2022, a 40-13 win at Offutt Field. In that game the Golden Eagles excelled on special teams, scoring two touchdowns in the third phase of the game. Connor Lyczek blocked a field goal attempt that Legend Davis returned 67 yards for a score, and Zach Benedek scored on a fake field goal late in the second quarter to make it 21-0.
  • Last year the Golden Eagles beat Seton Hill 23-17 at Memorial Stadium on Homecoming, marking the first home win for Clarion in the series since 2019. Clarion's win came on the strength of a streak of 16 unanswered points in the second half, which turned a 10-7 deficit into a 23-10 advantage.
  • The all-time series at Offutt Field has been close, with Seton Hill holding just a 3-2 advantage in home games.

Scouting the Griffins
  • Seton Hill was predicted to finish sixth in the PSAC West division in 2026 one year after going 4-7 overall with a 2-4 record in the PSAC West division.
  • The Griffins enter this year's game with a 3-4 overall record and a 2-2 mark in PSAC West play. Like Clarion they own a non-conference win over Lackawanna and a divisional win over Gannon (21-17), with the latter coming last week.
  • The offense has struggled to date, averaging 19.3 points per game to rank 14th in the conference, but the Griffins are in the top half of the league in scoring defense (7th - 25.1 ppg) and total defense (6th - 325.1 ypg). SHU owns the best passing defense in the league by far, allowing an average of just 122.4 yards per game through the air.
  • The Seton Hill defense features four players with two interceptions: De'Mario Manning, Demetri Whitehead, Somuah Etienne and Darius Patterson. The team ranks fourth in the PSAC and second in the West with 16 total sacks.
  • The Griffins' defense has been one of the best in the conference at limiting opponents' first downs, holding their foes to 16.7 first downs per game, the second-best mark in the PSAC and best in the West. Teams are converting just 33.0 percent of their third down attempts.
  • Running back Dashaun Williams ranks fifth in the PSAC with an average of 74.8 rushing yards per game.

Last Week
  • It was a tight game from beginning to end, but turnovers and miscues ultimately led the Golden Eagle football team to a 26-20 double-overtime defeat against California (PA) at Al Jacks Field at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
  • The Golden Eagles and Vulcans were relatively even on the stat sheet just as they were on the scoreboard, but four Clarion turnovers—all lost fumbles—proved costly for the home team. The Vulcans only turned one of those drives into points—the winning touchdown in the second overtime—but the giveaways defused Golden Eagle offensive drives in a tight game.
  • Ja'Tawn Williams had five catches for a game-high 103 yards, including a big 42-yard reception, while Jase Ferguson completed 17 of 35 passes for 208 yards. He also rushed for a team-high 76 yards.
  • Gabriel Laws logged 17 total tackles – five solo, 12 assisted – while Malcolm Roy had nine stops and a tackle for loss. Isaac Kim had a sack, with the play coming on an intentional grounding call against Cal quarterback Eric Gibson.

  • VanHuss's Sophomore Season Breakout
  • Over the last several games, Austin VanHuss has turned into one of the deadliest weapons in the Golden Eagles' passing arsenal.
  • After logging no receptions in the first game of the year, VanHuss has recorded 20 catches for 372 yards and three touchdowns in the last six games. That includes the best game of his career to date, when he recorded seven receptions for 185 yards and a touchdown against Lock Haven in Week 4.
  • Since 2016, only two other Golden Eagle receivers have logged as many as 185 receiving yards in a game: Quinn Zinobile (2021 vs. Shippensburg - 202) and Kevin Genevro (2016 vs. Slippery Rock - 199).

  • Ferguson Named PSAC West Offensive Co-Athlete of the Week Honors for Sept. 28
  • The Golden Eagles added another weekly award to the shelf on Sept. 28 when Jase Ferguson shared PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week honors after Clarion's Week 4 win over Edinboro at Memorial Stadium.
  • Ferguson completed 20 of 32 passes for 312 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, while also rushing for a game-high 75 yards and another touchdown. Ferguson started off the game with a 75-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Tawn Williams on the first play from scrimmage, and later recorded touchdown passes of 47 and 22 yards to Davon Jones and Tsirell Curry respectively.

More on Ferguson
  • Jase Ferguson ranks third in Super Region I and 17th in Division II in passing yards with an average of 257.3  yards per game..
  • In another nod to Clarion's big play ability, Ferguson is first in the PSAC and fifth in the region in passing yards per completion at 14.76, a mark that ranks 20th in Division II.
  • Finally, Ferguson ranks second in Super Region 1 and 10th in Division II in total offense at 312.0 yards per game. He's fifth in the Region and 19th in the nation in points responsible for, with an average of 17.1 points per game.

Spicy Curry
  • While the Clarion passing attack has thrived on diversity of targets, Tsirell Curry has taken a step forward, with the redshirt freshman totaling 456 yards and five touchdowns.
  • Curry ranks sixth in the PSAC with an average of 65.1 receiving yards per game, and his 20.7 yards per reception average leads the conference.

Picking Party
  • Though the Golden Eagles have allowed some yards through the air, they have been one of the very best in the nation in taking the ball away when opponents decide to throw.
  • Clarion has intercepted 12 passes already in 2026, third-most in all of Division II and most in the PSAC to date.
  • The Golden Eagles have already had three games this year where they have intercepted three or more passes.

The Offense As a Whole
  • Clarion ranks fourth in the PSAC and eighth in Super Region 1 with an average of 415.1 yards of total offense per game.
  • The Golden Eagles' scoring offense ranks fourth in the PSAC and seventh in Super Region 1 in scoring offense at 34.9 points per game. They have eclipsed the 30-point mark in five of their seventh games this season, and rank 32nd in the nation in scoring offense.
  • The passing game has been driving the bus: Clarion ranks fourth in Super Region 1 and 24th in NCAA Division II with an average of 264.9 passing yards per game. The Golden Eagles rank fifth in the region and are 23rd in Division II in yards per completion (14.71).

Next Week
The Golden Eagles will face one of the highest scoring teams in the nation at home when they host Slippery Rock on Saturday, October 31 at Al Jacks Field. Kickoff against The Rock is set for noon.
