LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced their weekly volleyball award winners on Monday. Clarion's
Kalina Powell was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week for Oct. 5, after the redshirt freshman libero was instrumental in conference wins over Gannon and Edinboro over the weekend.
Powell averaged 4.89 digs per set in the two matches in Tippin Gymnasium, starting with an outstanding 28-dig effort in the win over the Golden Knights on Friday. That helped to hold Gannon to a .114 attack percentage as the Golden Eagles rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat the Golden Knights by a 3-2 score. In the win over the Fighting Scots on Saturday, Powell recorded 16 digs and the Fighting Scots were limited to a .075 attack percentage.
This is the fourth time this year that a Golden Eagle has earned PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week honors.
Cara Vandeborne has won the award three times this year.
