Series History
- This will be the 96th meeting all-time between Clarion and IUP, with the Crimson Hawks owning a 68-24-3 advantage in the series. The series dates back to the 1927 season, with IUP winning 51-0 in the initial game between the PSAC West rivals.
- The Crimson Hawks have won 14 straight meetings between the teams dating back to the 2011 season, including seven straight in Clarion.
- The last win in the series for the Golden Eagles was a 21-14 victory on Oct. 16, 2010 in Indiana. Alfonso Hoggard went off for 179 yards, including touchdown runs of 49 and 69 yards in the fourth quarter, to seal the victory. Nick Sipes recorded 10 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and an interception. It was Clarion's second straight win over IUP.
- To find the most recent time the Golden Eagles beat IUP before 2009, one has to go back to the 1996 season, when Clarion beat the Crimson Hawks 49-15 on Nov. 2. That was IUP's only West loss of the season and briefly gave the Golden Eagles sole possession of first place in the PSAC West; the teams finished the year as co-champions.
- Last year the Golden Eagles lost in a 45-42 shootout at Al Jacks Field, in a game where Clarion racked up 516 total offense yards and 234 rushing yards. Davon Jones caught six passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Â
Scouting the Crimson Hawks
- IUP was predicted to win the PSAC West division in 2026 with five first place votes. In 2025, IUP boasted the best passing offense (317.9 yards per game) and the best rushing defense (just 97.4 yards allowed) and made an appearance in the 2025 PSAC Championship Game. The Crimson Hawks returned seven starters on offense and five on defense from the team that won seven games a year ago.
- The Crimson Hawks are currently tied for third in the division with a 3-3 record, even with Lock Haven and Seton Hill and just one game ahead of the Golden Eagles. After starting the season with five straight wins IUP has lost three of their last four games, snapping their losing streak with a 17-14 win over Gannon last week.
- Saturday's game will feature one of the PSAC West's top rushing offenses against one of its best rush defenses. Clarion ranks second in the West with an average of 157.7 rushing yards per game, while the Crimson Hawks rank third in allowing just 130.7 rush yards per game.
- Running back Leon Parson ranks second in the PSAC with an average of 92.9 rushing yards per game, while quarterback Mason Maggs leads the PSAC with 23 touchdown passes on the year.
Â
Last Week
- The Golden Eagle football team opened the afternoon with an impressive 82-yard touchdown drive, but Slippery Rock responded with 41 unanswered points as The Rock came out on top 48-14 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.Â
- Clarion finished with 331 total offensive yards, including 181 yards on the ground, against an unbeaten Slippery Rock squad.
- Jase Ferguson led the Golden Eagles on the ground, rushing 11 times for 104 yards, including a 59-yard run on Clarion's opening possession. The sophomore quarterback also completed 11-of-22 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Avante George added 63 yards on 15 carries, while Davon Jones led the receiving corps with 45 yards on one catch. Kooper Kamberis caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown, and Tyreeck Hall added a receiving score.Â
- Defensively, Tarell Allen-Tooks led the Golden Eagles with 10 tackles, including a tackle for loss, while Najhir Kibidor finished with eight tackles and an interception. Gabriel Laws recorded seven tackles, and Eli Zasadni and Cameron Thomas each added six. Lenair Butler recorded Clarion's lone sack, dropping Owens for a 13-yard loss.
Â
Notes on the Offense
- Clarion ranks fourth in the PSAC and 10th in Super Region 1 with an average of 403.2 yards of total offense per game.
- The Golden Eagles' scoring offense ranks fourth in the PSAC and 13th in Super Region 1 in scoring offense at 31.3 points per game. They have eclipsed the 30-point mark in five of their nine games this season.
- The passing game has been driving the bus: Clarion ranks seventh in Super Region 1 with an average of 245.6 passing yards per game. The Golden Eagles rank seventh in the region and are 23rd in Division II in yards per completion (14.73).
Â
Don't Sleep on the Ground Game
- The Clarion run attack has been strong all year long but has taken steps over the last four weeks into becoming a greater focal point of the offense.
- Starting with the Golden Eagles' win over Gannon on Oct. 10, Clarion has rushed 138 times for 680 yards, a 4.93 yards per attempt average.
- In Week 7 at Seton Hill Tyreeck Hall recorded his second 100-yard rushing game of the season, carrying eight times for 102 yards and a score against the Griffins.
- On Oct. 31 against Slippery Rock, Jase Ferguson recorded his first 100-yard rushing game of the season with 104 yards against The Rock.
- Clarion rushers have logged 13 rushes of 20 or more yards this year, with four of those going for more than 50 yards.
Â
More on Ferguson
- Jase Ferguson ranks third in Super Region I and first in the PSAC in passing yards with an average of 239.7 yards per game.
- In another nod to Clarion's big play ability, Ferguson is first in the PSAC and sixth in the region in passing yards per completion at 14.77, a mark that ranks 18th in Division II.Â
- Finally, Ferguson ranks second in Super Region 1 and 11th in Division II in total offense at 298.8 yards per game. He's sixth in the Region and 20th in the nation in points responsible for, with an average of 16.0 points per game.
Â
Curry Goes Long
- In an offense full of players capable of going the distance, Tsirell Curry has been the team's best long ball threat in the passing game.
- Curry ranks second in the PSAC with an average of 20.9 yards per reception, the best for any players with more than 20 receptions on the year.
- On the year, Curry has totaled 23 catches for 480 yards and five touchdowns.
Â
Strange But True!
- On October 31 against Slippery Rock, Jase Ferguson connected with tight end Kooper Kamberis for a touchdown on the game's opening drive. In doing so, the Golden Eagles broke an odd streak.
- Kamberis's touchdown reception is the first for any Golden Eagle tight end in seven years. Jake Whitenight - himself a converted offensive lineman - pulled down three touchdown passes in 2019.
- Prior to that? In 2018 Maverick Kelsea caught a touchdown in a hybrid tight end / fullback role. The last player listed as a tight end to score a touchdown was Gage Clark, who had one score in 2016.
Â
Picking Party
- Though the Golden Eagles have allowed some yards through the air, they have been one of the very best in the nation in taking the ball away when opponents decide to throw.
- Clarion has intercepted 14 passes in 2026, fifth-most in all of Division II and most in Super Region 1 to date.
- The Golden Eagles have already had three games this year where they have intercepted three or more passes.
Â
Next Week
- The Golden Eagles will honor their seniors in a pregame ceremony before closing out the year against Millersville on Saturday, November 14 at Al Jacks Field. Kickoff is slated for noon.
