The Golden Eagles (6-3 overall, 3-2 in the MAC) are riding a high, having won their last six outings, all during January. They are 2-2 in away matches.
Travis Clawson (125 pounds) is on a roll, winning seven-in-a-row, improving his dual meet record to 8-1(18-5 overall). He just garnered the first national ranking of his collegiate career – #33 by Intermat (Feb. 3). Clawson was #4 in the MAC's January rankings.

Joey Fischer (133 pounds) is 7-2 in duals and 15-8 overall. The MAC had Fischer ranked #4 in January.
Alejandro Herrera-Rondon (165 pounds) and
Gabe Lilly (174 pounds) also have winning records, the former 14-6 and the latter 11-9. Herrera-Rondon was ranked #4 by the MAC in January.
Edinboro at a Glance
Led by the 2024-25 MAC Coach of the Year Matt Hill, the Fighting Scotts are 4-5 this season and 1-1 in the conference. They are undefeated at home, winning both matches contested on their tartan mat. Edinboro lost its most recent dual, falling to Rider, 28-14, in Lawrenceville, N.J. on January 24. Clarion also took a loss at Rider, 34-6 (Dec. 21). The day before their loss to Rider (Jan. 23), the Fighting Scots downed George Mason in Virginia, 26-13. Both Edinboro and Clarion have wins against Kent State – the Fighting Scots 30-14 (Dec. 11) and the Golden Eagles 19-18 on criteria (Jan. 31).
Edinboro has two nationally-ranked grapplers in the line-up; 184-pounder Jared McGill (#23 Flo/#14 Intermat) and 165-pounder Ryan Burgos (#31 Flo/#30 Intermat). McGill (10-2), the MAC's #3 in the January rankings, was an NCAA qualifier (at-large) last season. He was a MAC East Co-Wrestler of the Week at the end of January (Jan. 27). Burgos (16-5) was an NCAA qualifier (at-large) in 2023. He was #2 in the MAC's January rankings.
Others with winning records are 125-pounder Chris Vargo (10-7), 149-pounder Ryan Michaels (10-7), 174-pounder Tate Geiser (11-8), and 197-pounder Brody Evans (8-6). Michaels was awarded MAC Wrestler of the Week honors in December (Dec. 16). The MAC had him ranked #4 in January. Also garnering a MAC top-five ranking in January was Jacob Brenneman (10-10), the 149-pounder at #4.
Clarion vs. Edinboro
Edinboro beat Clarion last season in Tippin Gymnasium, 26-12 (Jan. 12). Clawson will be looking to avenge a 6-4 loss to Vargo a year ago at this Thursday's dual. Clarion and Edinboro first scrapped during February 1968, the Golden Eagles winning, 39-5.
The Golden Eagles lead the series 29-26 – having an advantage in Edinboro (16-14) and in conference duals (5-7).
Fischer is 2-0 in matches against the Fighting Scots.
A featured clash Thursday evening could come at 165-pounds, Golden Eagle Herrera-Rondon tangling with Burgos.
