CLARION, Pa. – Led by a quartet of record-breaking performances across the pool, the Golden Eagles men's swimming and diving team secured a 172-126 victory over Grove City College on Saturday at Tippin Natatorium. Three different swimmers combined to set four pool records in the final regular season meet of the 2025-26 season, as the Golden Eagles will now prep for the 2026 PSAC Championships later this month.
The Golden Eagles showcased their depth across the board, claiming top honors in both relay and individual events while dominating the diving well to maintain their momentum through the final stages of the season.
Dominic Cortopassi delivered a commanding performance in the 200 Free, taking the top spot with a time of 1:40.57, setting a new pool record in the process. He notched a second pool record in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:51.64 to claim first place and finishing nearly 10 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
In the distance events,
George Horey secured a pool record in the grueling 1650 Free. Horey maintained a steady pace to finish in 17:11.69, providing Clarion with nine points early in the meet.
Rounding out the pool records on Saturday was
Gavin Guckavan , who led a Clarion sweep of the top five spots in the 50 Free. Guckavan posted a winning time of 21.28, followed by teammates
Ryan Ehlers (21.95) and
Jacob Rider (22.08). Rider also added an individual win in the 200 Back, finishing in 1:54.82.
Mason Peck was equally vital to the Golden Eagles' scoring efforts. Peck sprinted to a victory in the 100 Free, clocking in at 46.59.
The diving squad provided a significant boost to the team's total, sweeping the top four spots in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
In the 1-meter competition,
Zakary Kennedy took first place with a score of 331.95, followed by
Ethan Coronado (308.25) and
Michael Flamm (286.50).
Zach Schering rounded out the top four with a 285.60.
Schering elevated his performance in the 3-meter event, claiming the victory with a score of 316.50. Coronado followed closely in second (308.85), with Kennedy taking third (304.20) and Flamm finishing fourth (247.43).
