CALABASH, N.C. --- Individual improvements nearly across the board led to a much better team result for the Golden Eagles women's golf team on Friday, as Clarion improved by 19 strokes as a team from their first to the second round at the Battle at Brunswick at Brunswick Plantation.
Â
The Golden Eagles posted a team score of 352 on Friday, a marked improvement on their 371 on Thursday. Within that, nearly every member of the team entry improved on their previous round, led by
Kennady Norton and
McKayla Kerle, who tied for the team lead with scores of 85. Norton had the only birdie of the round for the Golden Eagles, making four on the par five No. 5 hole. Kerle was strong on the front nine, shooting a team-best 40 on that account.
Â
Hannah Smith remained the Golden Eagles' highest overall placer; though she did not improve on Thursday's score she did not stray far from it, carding an 87 on Friday that was just two strokes off her previous day's pace. She sits in 13
th place overall entering the final round.
Amber Roth cut five strokes off Thursday's round for a score of 95, rounding out the scoring, while
Rylee Thompson posted a 100.
