DUBOIS, Pa. — The Golden Eagles (11-12) soared to a convincing 12–4 triumph over Penn State DuBois (13-1) on Tuesday, lighting up the scoreboard with an impressive 14 hits at Stern Family Field .
Randy Carlo continued his offensive onslaught in 2026 with a record-breaking performance while Clarion's pitchers racked up 11 strikeouts across nine innings.
Carlo went 4-for-5 at the plate with a grand slam home run and seven RBIs, setting a new single-game school record in the process. The previous school record of six RBI in a game was held by four people, most recently Lenny Piccini against Pitt-Johnstown in 2024. The home run was Carlo's 10th of the season, putting him just one behind Scotty McManamon's single-season record of 11 home runs set in 2023, and his 40 RBIs on the season is tied for second in a single season.
The action kicked off early as Clarion jumped ahead in the first inning. Zach Colangelo, after getting hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on
Elvin Robles' groundout, and crossed home plate thanks to Carlo's single. This was just the beginning for Carlo, who notched a career-high four hits. With that, Clarion led 1–0 after the first.
In the second,
Tommy Smith drew a walk and advanced to second courtesy of
Ethan McNally's sacrifice bunt. He then reached third on a groundout and made a daring steal home, nudging the Golden Eagles' lead to 2–1.
The third inning saw the Golden Eagles stretch their advantage.
Elvin Robles walked and scored on a Carlo single. Carlo later crossed home following
Derek Smail's single. Smail then scored on McNally's single, pushing the lead to 5–1 by the inning's end.
By the sixth, the Golden Eagles widened the gap further. Robles walked, stole second, and scored on another Carlo single.
Jacob Patterson and Carlo later scored thanks to Smail's hit, boosting the lead to 8–2.
The seventh inning delivered a grand finale—a grand slam by Carlo after walks by
Ethan McNally, Zach Colangelo, and Robles. Clarion held strong at 12–4 as the inning concluded.
Jon Fijalkowski got the start and threw three innings of one-run ball, settling for the no-decision.
