EDINBORO, Pa. — Clarion swept a PSAC road doubleheader on Saturday, beating Edinboro 6-1 in the opener, followed by a commanding 9–1 six-inning win in the second game.
Game 1: Clarion 6, Edinboro 1
In the first game, the Golden Eagles capitalized on Edinboro's three errors, scoring twice in the first and second innings to establish an early lead.
Emily Buchleitner got things started with a single and a stolen base in the first inning, setting up a scoring opportunity.
Sabi Medrano's walk and subsequent steal put runners in motion, leading to Buchleitner scoring on
Delanie Davison's sacrifice fly. Medrano later stole home, giving the Golden Eagles an initial two-run advantage.
The momentum continued into the second inning as the Golden Eagles took advantage of Edinboro's defensive miscues.
Brooke Dobson reached on an error, and after Sophie Petrash's single, Buchleitner reached on another error, driving in two unearned runs and extending the lead to 4–0. Despite the Fighting Scots' efforts to rally in the third inning with a run-scoring double, the Golden Eagles' defense and timely hitting kept the pressure on.
Amber Gilliam's RBI triple in the fifth inning further widened the gap, ensuring Clarion maintained control throughout the game.
Rian Reed pitched 4.0 innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing six hits and one earned run while issuing three walks and striking out three batters.
Ainsley Perdicaris took over for the final three innings, giving up just one hit and recording four strikeouts without allowing a run or walk. Buchleitner contributed with one hit and one run batted in, while successfully stealing two bases. Medrano crossed the plate twice and drew two walks, also stealing two bases.
Game 2: Clarion 9, Edinboro 1 (6 inn.)
In the second game, the Golden Eagles' offense was bolstered by three triples and three doubles, contributing to a four-run fifth inning that sealed the win. Edinboro's lone surge came in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Addy Maguire to narrow Clarion's lead. However, the Golden Eagles responded decisively in the fifth, pulling away with a four-run inning. Medrano reached on an error, and
Malina Serrano, who pinch-ran, scored on
Delanie Davison's RBI triple.
Jordy Best followed with another triple to bring Davison home, and Gilliam's double added another run, solidifying the lead.
The Golden Eagles' offensive momentum continued into the sixth inning. Buchleitner tripled, and Medrano walked and advanced to second. Gilliam delivered a two-RBI double, scoring both Buchleitner and Medrano. The Golden Eagles' aggressive baserunning also played a role, with productive outs and timely hits ensuring a commanding performance.
Emma Hipps delivered a complete game performance for the Golden Eagles, pitching 6.0 innings while allowing only two hits and one earned run. Hipps maintained control throughout, walking just one batter, and contributed to her own cause with two RBIs.
Amber Gilliam led the Golden Eagles with three hits, including three doubles, and drove in three runs.
Delanie Davison contributed two runs and added a hit with a triple, driving in one run.
