Norton, Women's Golf Lead After First Day at Fighting Scot Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles women's golf team paced the field after 18 holes at the Fighting Scot Spring Invitational on Saturday, with Clarion leading the pack one round in at Meadville Country Club. The team posted a cumulative score of 363 on Saturday, 10 strokes better than second-place California (PA), and three players ranked in the top-four on the leaderboard.

Kennady Norton had an outstanding showing on the first day of the tournament, leading the field with a low score of 86. She was at her best on the back nine, tying for the team-best score with a 39 on that stretch. Matching that 39 but checking in one stroke behind Norton on the day was Hannah Smith, who finished the first day ranked third overall. Smith had the lone birdie of the day for the Golden Eagles, making a two on the par three No. 13 hole.

McKayla Kerle rounded out the Golden Eagles near the top of the leaderboard, checking in just three strokes behind Norton and two behind Smith with an 89. That put Kerle in fourth place overall in the field. Rylee Thompson rounded out the scoring for Clarion with a score of 101 on Saturday, a mark tied by Ashlee Albright, who competed individually. Amber Roth added a 105 to complete the team entry.
