CLARION, Pa. --- This week saw both the Mid-American Conference and National Wrestling Coaches Association release their annual academic honors, with Clarion wrestlers represented on both the Academic All-MAC and NWCA Scholar All-American lists in 2025-26. Two athletes -
Ethan Wiant and
John Meyers - were represented on both lists.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed in the particular sport. First-year students and ANY transfer in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season only are considered.
Academic All-MAC Honorees
Joey Fischer, Redshirt Senior, MBA, 3.20
Scott Johnson, Junior, Integrated Business, 3.27
John Meyers, Graduate Student, MBA, 3.77
Ethan Wiant, Graduate Student, Exercise Science and Health Promotion, 3.86
Meanwhile, the NWCA Scholar All-America award uses a sliding scale to determine its recipients. To earn those honors, an athlete's accomplishments on the mat inform what GPA is needed to make the team:
Â
- NCAA top-eight placewinner and 3.00 GPA;
- NCAA Qualifier and 3.2 GPA;
- Conference qualifier and 3.5 GPA;
- 15 matches with 60% win record and 3.5 GPA
