Softball Drops Pair of Road Games at IUP

INDIANA, Pa. — The Golden Eagles softball team faced a tough challenge on Friday afternoon, falling to IUP in both games of their doubleheader, with final scores of 12–3 and 12–4.

Game 1: IUP 12, Clarion 3 (6 inn.)

In the first game, the Crimson Hawks took control in the second inning when Ruby Singleton launched a three-run homer to center field, stretching their lead to 6–2. This surge followed a series of singles that loaded the bases.

The Golden Eagles managed to stave off further damage, but the early gap proved influential throughout the contest. Alexis Valencia sparked the offense early, scoring in the first inning on a wild pitch after a single to left field and some savvy baserunning.

Valencia later plated Emily Buchleitner with a single in the second inning, narrowing the score temporarily. Buchleitner's double in the sixth inning set the stage for Jordy Best to cross the plate on Ainsley Perdicaris's sacrifice fly.

Despite these efforts, the Golden Eagles struggled to maintain pressure, leaving runners stranded in key situations. In the sixth, the Crimson Hawks added to their lead with two singles and a walk, pushing across three more runs and putting the game out of reach.

Valencia recorded two hits, one RBI, and scored a run while also swiping a base. Buchleitner contributed with two hits, including a double, and scored a run, adding a stolen base to her efforts. Sophie Petrash reached base twice, once with a hit and once with a walk, maintaining a perfect on-base percentage. Best chipped in with a hit and scored a run for the Golden Eagles.

Game 2: IUP 12, Clarion 4 (6 inn.)

In the second game, the Golden Eagles put up a spirited four-run effort in the third inning, highlighted by six hits, but IUP answered back with a steady offensive show to claim the victory. IUP took control in the fifth inning when Jess Cekada launched a three-run home run, pushing the lead to 9–4. Emily Miller was hit by a pitch and Delaney Patella walked, setting the stage for Cekada's game-changing swing that firmly tilted the momentum toward the Crimson Hawks.

The Golden Eagles made a significant push in the third inning. Jordy Best singled, followed by Alexis Valencia and Sophie Petrash loading the bases. Emily Buchleitner drew a walk to bring in the first run, and Sabi Medrano's groundout added another. Emma Houk capped off the inning with a two-run single, tying the game at 4–4. Despite their efforts, Clarion couldn't maintain the pressure in later innings and left runners stranded in the third.

Sophie Petrash led the Golden Eagles with two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Emma Houk made a notable contribution by driving in two runs with a single. Jordy Best added to the offense with one hit and scored a run.
