DiMauro, Sherk Earn PSAC Weekly Honors

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced their women's soccer weekly award winners on Monday. Clarion scored a clean sweep of the first batch of awards, with Ciara DiMauro earning PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors and Sage Sherk PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week laurels for August 31.

The Golden Eagles went 2-0 last week with a 2-1 win over Ursuline and a 2-0 shutout over California (PA).

In the win over the Arrows on Thursday, DiMauro tied the score at 1-1 in the second half, beating the goalkeeper on a penalty kick in the 58th minute. Fourteen minutes later the Golden Eagles scored the go-ahead goal on a corner kick. Against the Vulcans on Saturday, DiMauro had a goal and an assist, arcing a beautiful cross to Leah Deal for a header and the first goal of the game. Later in the second half she tacked on insurance, collecting a rebound off the woodwork and firing it past the goalkeeper for the goal that put her in sole possession of Clarion's all-time points scoring record.

Sherk, meanwhile, made six saves and recorded one shutout in the games over the Arrows and the Vulcans. The senior netminder helped secure the win over the Arrows on Thursday with a pair of saves, none bigger than a stop on a penalty kick in the 46th minute with the Golden Eagles trailing 1-0. The stop helped keep the game in striking distance, and Clarion scored twice down the stretch for the win. Sherk made four stops in the win over the Vulcans, her fifth career blanking.
