Quick Notes

• Clarion will renew their century-old rivalry with Edinboro on Saturday as the Golden Eagles welcome the Fighting Scots to Memorial Stadium for a noon kickoff.
• This will be the 96th meeting between the Golden Eagles and Fighting Scots, with Edinboro owning a 51-42-2 edge in the all-time series.
• The Golden Eagles are coming off a 59-13 win over Lackawanna, their highest-scoring game in more than 11 years.
• Quarterback Jase Ferguson leads the PSAC in total offense at 278.0 yards per game, and his seven passing touchdowns are tied for fifth in the conference.
• The Golden Eagles picked off four passes against Lackawanna in Week 3, their best since 2022. Clarion leads the PSAC with five interceptions and are one of four teams with a pick-six.
• Wide receiver Davon Jones has accounted for eight explosives already in 2026, including four pass plays and four rushes.
• The Golden Eagles are the only team in the PSAC with four different players that have scored multiple rushing touchdowns this year: Jase Ferguson (2), Kaevon Gardner (2), Davon Jones (2) and Tyreeck Hall (2). They are tied for second in the PSAC with nine rushing touchdowns.
• Jaylin Miller and Lenard Brown rank in the top 10 in the PSAC in total sacks with 2.0 and 1.5 sacks respectively through three games.
• The Golden Eagles are third in the PSAC West in fewest sacks against, allowing just three to date. Conversely, they're tied for fourth in the league with seven team sacks.
• Kicker Ty Woods is now a two-time PSAC West Special Teams Athlete of the Week, winning after Week 1 and most recently on Monday after the win over Lackawanna.

 
Series History

• This will be the 96th meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Fighting Scots, making it the most-played rivalry in the history of Clarion football. The series dates all the way back to the 1926 season. Edinboro leads the all-time series with Clarion 51-42-2.
• Clarion led the rivalry for many years, going 18-14-1 against the Fighting Scots from 1926-1958. Since then, Edinboro has led the all-time series 37-24-1.
• The last time the teams played in Memorial Stadium, Clarion rallied back from a 19-point fourth quarter deficit, outscoring Edinboro 20-0 in the fourth quarter for a stunning 29-28 win at Memorial Stadium. Anthony Guercio threw for 372 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing 19 times for 88 yards and a score.
• In last year's meeting it was the Golden Eagles who were on the wrong end of the comeback, with Edinboro scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half to win 21-20 at Sox-Harrison Stadium. Zach Switzer completed 12 of 19 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another in relief of an injured Guercio, but he too suffered an injury in the second half. Jase Ferguson's Hail Mary attempt at the end of regulation fell incomplete.

 
Scouting the Fighting Scots

• Edinboro was predicted to finish fourth in the PSAC West division in 2026 after tying with IUP for a share of the PSAC West regular season title (5-1 conference record) in 2025.
• Interim head coach Eric Crandall was the defensive coordinator for the Fighting Scots last year, with Edinboro ranking third in the conference with an average of 22.3 points per game allowed.
• The Fighting Scots enter this weekend with a 2-1 overall record, winning 38-36 over Ohio Dominican in triple overtime and 9-6 over Bloomsburg. Their loss came last week, with West Chester winning 44-24 in Edinboro.
• Defensive lineman Montrice Webster was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Sept. 14 after the win over the Huskies. He logged seven tackles, 3.0 TFL and a forced fumble as the Fighting Scots held Bloomsburg to just 171 yards of total offense and 10 first downs.
• The week prior, safety Ty Reali got the PSAC West defensive honors, making 12 tackles and an interception in the win over Ohio Dominican.

 
Last Week

• The Golden Eagles' offense exploded for just shy of 500 total yards while the defense forced five turnovers on the road, as Clarion defeated Lackawanna 59-13 in the first ever meeting between the two teams. Clarion never trailed in the game and racked up 45 unanswered points while shutting out the Falcons in the second half.
• Clarion registered 12 explosives on offense, with six rushing plays over 10 yards and another half-dozen pass plays that accumulated 15 or more yards. Of those, five of Clarion's eight touchdowns in the game came on explosive plays, including a 54-yard run for Tyreeck Hall in the fourth quarter.
• Defensively, the Golden Eagles capitalized on numerous Lackawanna miscues, forcing five turnovers and turning them into 17 points. They intercepted four Falcons passes, with Najhir Kibidor and Ky'ian Mims shutting down scoring drives with picks in the end zone, and Connor Shephard's fumble recovery in the second quarter set up the first of two touchdown runs for Davon Jones. Cameron Thomas and Will Hulea also recorded interceptions.
• The eight touchdowns recorded by Clarion, as well as 59 points scored, were the most in a single game since the Golden Eagles beat Cheyney 59-6 on Sept. 19, 2015. The five turnovers were the most in a single game for Clarion since forcing five turnovers against Lock Haven on Sept. 3, 2015.

 
Offense Hunting for Explosive Plays

• Last year, the Golden Eagles' offense displayed outstanding explosive ability, finishing the year with 129 "explosive" plays, defined as a run of 10+ yards or a pass play of 15+ yards. That's an average of 11.7 explosive plays per game.

Hall Finds Another Gear

• Speaking of explosive plays, running back Tyreeck Hall has been involved in two of the three longest plays from scrimmage for the Golden Eagles this season, including the two longest runs of the year.
• In the fourth quarter against West Virginia Wesleyan on Sept. 3, Hall recorded the second-longest run in Golden Eagles history, rushing 87 yards for a score to put an exclamation point on the win over the Bobcats.
• Hall's burst ranks as the longest run ever recorded at Memorial Stadium, topping the previous record, an 84-yard run by Clarion Sports Hall of Famer Alfonso Hoggard in 2010 against Slippery Rock. The longest rush in Clarion history came in 2012, when quarterback Ben Fiscus ripped off an 88-yard run against LIU Post.
• Hall tacked on another big run to cap the Golden Eagles' win over Lackawanna on Sept. 19, breaking off a 54-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
• Through three weeks, Hall has two of the nine longest runs in the PSAC, with his 87-yard score the longest.

 
Ferguson Locks In vs. Lackawanna

• In the win over Lackawanna on Sept. 19, redshirt freshman quarterback Jase Ferguson was efficient while keeping his eyes downfield, completing 16 of 21 passes for 298 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He added five total rushes for 37 yards and a score without being sacked.
• Of his 16 completions, six went for more than 15 yards, including his touchdown passes for Austin VanHuss and Collin Willard.

 
Big Time Rush

• The Golden Eagles displayed a balanced rushing attack in the win over Lackawanna in Week 3, with six different players combining for 30 carries, 201 yards and six touchdowns.
• Kaevon Gardner led the backfield with nine carries, turning them in 53 yards and a touchdown, while Davon Jones carried twice for 19 yards and two touchdowns. Avante George, Jase Ferguson and Tyreeck Hall also punched it into the end zone on the ground.
• It is the first time Clarion has recorded six rushing touchdowns as a team in a single game since matching that mark on Nov. 13, 2010, against Millersville.

 
The Ol' Switcheroo

• In the Week 3 win over Lackawanna, the Golden Eagles forced five Falcons turnovers, including four interceptions and one fumble recovery. The five turnovers were the most in a single game for Clarion since forcing five turnovers against Lock Haven on Sept. 3, 2015.
• The four interceptions recorded by the Golden Eagles in that game are the most for any PSAC team in a game to date; through Week 3, no other team has recorded more than two interceptions in a single game.
• The last time Clarion recorded four interceptions in one game came on Oct. 15, 2022, when they pulled down four passes against Mercyhurst on the road.

 
Woods Nabs Two ST Athlete of the Week Awards

• Kicker/punter Ty Woods won two of the first three PSAC West Special Teams Athlete of the Week awards in 2026, claiming one apiece after the Golden Eagles' wins over West Virginia Wesleyan in Week 1 and Lackawanna in Week 3.
• Against the Bobcats, he went 7-of-7 on extra point attempts and nailed his only field goal attempt of the game, a 19-yarder at the end of the second quarter to give Clarion a 17-7 advantage. When called upon to punt he was just as effective, punting six times for an average of 42.7 yards per kick, landing three inside the 20-yard line and none for touchbacks.
• In the win over the Falcons Woods went 8-for-8 on extra point attempts and made a 42-yard field goal. He punted just once, inducing a fair catch at the Lackawanna 8-yard line.

 
Next Week

• Divisional action continues as the Golden Eagles head to Lock Haven for a duel against their rivals in the wild, the Bald Eagles, on Oct. 3.
• This will be the 70th meeting between Clarion and Lock Haven, with the Golden Eagles owning a 51-17-1 record in the all-time series. Lock Haven's sole win in the last 19 years in the series came in their last meeting, when a Hail Mary flea flicker gave them an improbable 21-20 win at Memorial Stadium.
