Cook Named PSAC West Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced their weekly women's soccer award winners on Tuesday. Clarion's Evelyn Cook was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week for September 8 after leading the Golden Eagles to an upset win over 14th-ranked Gannon.

This is the second straight week a Golden Eagle has won the Athlete of the Week award. Ciara DiMauro was the PSAC West Athlete of the Week, and Sage Sherk the division's Defensive Athlete of the Week, for August 31.

Cook contributed a goal and an assist last week, both in the Golden Eagles' victory over the Golden Knights on Wednesday. The senior midfielder contributed to the first goal of the game against the Golden Knights, stealing the ball near midfield and feeding Ciara DiMauro for the latter's third goal of the season. It was Cook's turn to take advantage of a Gannon turnover in the second half. Paige Brewer stole the ball in the 46th minute, dropping a pass off for Cook 25 yards out. Cook struck a well-placed ball toward the net, tucking a long shot into the upper right corner to give Clarion a 2-1 lead.

Clarion went 1-0-1 last week, beating Gannon and then playing Seton Hill to a 2-2 draw at home. The Golden Eagles are currently ranked fifth in the IWSOC Atlantic Region rankings.
