Clarion Athletic Training - Student-Athlete Information

Welcome to another season of Clarion Athletics! Below is a short description of what is necessary to expedite the process to allow you to begin competitive competition here at Clarion. We ask that you please read this information carefully and should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 814-393-2006. We look forward to working with you throughout your career as a student-athlete.

When a coach adds you to the roster, the athletic training staff will e-mail your PennWest e-mail (email@pennwest.edu) with a user name and password for access to the Magnus Health web site.  This is the only correspondent that e-mails can be sent to.  If you are a returning student athlete and forget your username and password, you can use the link at https://secure.magnushealthportal.com/.

Once on the Magnus Health Web Site, please watch the video explaining the process for completing all necessary medical items.

Physicals
In order to participate in intercollegiate athletics, Clarion requires ALL athletes to receive a yearly pre-participation physical exam by their family physician.  ALL STUDENT ATHLETES MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL COMPLETED BEFORE REPORTING TO ANY CLARION TEAM ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING PRE-SEASON CONDITIONING.  Athletes who fail to comply with these requirements will be withheld from all participation and team activities, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Sickle Cell Testing:
The NCAA and Clarion Athletics require all student-athletes (including those who Try-Out), to be informed about the risks of sickle cell trait and submit genetic testing results prior to participating in intercollegiate athletics. You are not permitted to waive testing.  Many of you have already been tested as infants at birth and may already have these results at your doctor’s office.  You can also request birth records from your state Department of Health.  If not, it is very simple to complete.  You can request your primary care provider to perform the test, or it can even be done by our university health center for a very small cost.

To ensure your physical is complete, you must provide documentation of sickle cell solubility testing with the results.  Birth records of the test results are acceptable. ALL STUDENT ATHLETES MUST HAVE SICKLE CELL TESTING RESULTS ON FILE BEFORE REPORTING TO ANY CLARION TEAM ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING PRE-SEASON CONDITIONING.

Please see this letter for more details.

Insurance
Sports activities have varying degrees of risk of injury that participants should recognize by nature of the activity. Students who choose to participate in the intercollegiate sports program are REQUIRED to have insurance coverage either through a parent/guardian or a self-paid subscription. Most students are covered by their parent's policy. Should an injury occur, their insurance will be billed for initial treatment. Charges not covered by the primary carrier will be submitted to the Clarion Athletic Department self-paid fund for payment. All referrals for medical services must have written pre-authorization by the athletic trainers in order to be covered by the school medical plan. Do not self refer unless it is an emergency.

Thank you for your time and patience and if we can be of any assistance during this process, please contact us at your convenience!
