DWAYNE MARTIN - Special Teams & Video Coordinator/Secondary

Dwayne Martin, 43, begins his tenth season at Clarion and will tutor the defensive backs in 2015. He will also serve as the team's Special Teams and Video Coordinator.

Dwayne was Clarion's Defensive Coordinator from 2006-12. His 2009 team had an outstanding season with Martin calling the shots. Clarion ranked #4 in the entire PSAC yielding only 302.9 yards per game, while ranking #3 in rushing defense yielding only 118.5 yadrs per game.

Martin came to Clarion from Slippery Rock, where he was the linebackers coach from 2000-2005. Dwayne also ran SRU’s Minority Mentoring program, along with other responsibilities.

Martin worked alongside former Clarion coach Jay Foster, who was SRU’s defensive coordinator. Martin was a strong contributor to "The Rock’s" strong defensive teams over the years. The SRU defense ranked #1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference against the pass the last two seasons, and also ranked #4 in the PSAC in total defense in 2005 and #5 in 2004. The 2000 defense ranked #2 in the PSAC in scoring defense and #3 in total defense.

Prior to Slippery Rock, Martin was the defensive backs coach at Wesley College (Dover, De.) for two seasons (2000, 2001) and running backs coach for one season (1999.). Martin also spent two years as defensive coordinator at West Virginia Tech (1998, 97), and one year at Tech as an assistant coach (1996.).

Martin attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and earned four varsity letters playing defensive back. A native of Akron, Ohio, Martin is a 1990 graduate of Akron - Garfield High. Dwayne and his wife Robin have sons Don Dwayne Jr. and Asante, and a daughter Ellasondra.
