Ed Groth IV enters his second season as an assistant with the Golden Eagle football program in 2024. Groth will work with the Golden Eagle wide receivers while also serving as the program's special teams coordinator.
In 2023 Groth coached all-conference performer Corahn Alleyne, who was among the national leaders in all-purpose yardage. Averaging nearly 150 all-purpose yards per game, Alleyne was the only player conference with more than 100 yards each in rushing, receiving, kick returns and punt returns. That was good enough to earn him Second Team All-PSAC honors.
Groth spent the 2022 season as the running backs coach at his alma mater Central Connecticut State. Under his direction Nasir Smith earned First Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors at running back, after rushing for 1,219 yards and scoring 14 total touchdowns. Smith's rushing total was the seventh-highest single-season total in CCSU history. He was also named to the New England Football Writers All-New England Team.
Before going back to Connecticut, Groth spent the 2021 season coaching alongside current Golden Eagles head coach Raymond Monica at Southeastern Louisiana. He was the team's special teams quality control coach that year, working with Austin Dunlap, who earned HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-America honors at punter.
Before going into college coaching, Groth spent three years coaching high school football at Staples High School in Westport, Conn. He served as the team's special teams coordinator, assistant quarterbacks coach and head strength & conditioning coaching. He also worked at Greenwich high school in that time.
Groth was a four-year member of the football program at Central Connecticut State as the Blue Devils' kicker and punter. He earned All-NEC and All-New England honors as a senior, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in 2017.
